THE TIME IS NOW TO FIND A CURE
Every hour of every day someone new is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Right now there are cutting-edge research projects that hold the potential to change lives. However, many of these remain unfunded. With your help, our goal is to raise $300,000 by September 30, 2009 for targeted research that will get us closer to dramatically impacting the lives of people who live with MS.
Promise: 2010 is an innovative research initiative, targeting four promising areas:
- First, because children are the fastest growing population being diagnosed with MS today, Promise: 2010 has created a network of Pediatric MS Centers of Excellence.
- Second, Promise: 2010 scientists are engaged in the most extensive attempt ever to map and study how MS affects the brain – the MS Lesion Project.
- Third, there is an initiative to study the affects of MS over peoples’ lifetimes, looking for patterns that will lead to better treatments and possibly even a cure – the Sonya Slifka Longitudinal Study.
- Fourth (and closest to home), teams are working to reverse the damage caused by MS through the Nervous System Protection and Repair Project. UW-Madison is one of four sites throughout the world involved with this project. Dr. Ian Duncan, long-time Wisconsin Chapter friend, is leading the effort at UW-Madison.
How can you help?
Attend or sponsor the MS Luncheon in Milwaukee or Madison, or donate directly to Targeted Research.
All funds raised through MS Luncheons support Promise: 2010, as do monies raised through the Birkebeiner Skiers for Cures program.
