Being a Team Captain

As the Team Captain, you are the leader, motivator and educator for your team. Your enthusiasm will encourage your team members to raise more funds and to return year after year. Educate your team about multiple sclerosis. It is important to have a basic understanding of this disease and it's easier to raise money when you can explain the mission behind the event.

Team Captain Responsibilities

  • Create a Team Name: Pick a name2010 Bike MS Team Woofie that identifies your group or organization. Each team member should register under this name.
  • Register Your Team Members: Each team member must register individually, either online or through a paper registration. List the team’s name and your name as Team Captain on all forms.
  • Set Goals: Set recruitment and fund-raising goals. The sooner you start, the more riders you will recruit and the more time your team will have to raise funds. Set team and member goals, and track progress.
  • Recruit for and Promote Your Team: Tell everyone about your team and invite them to join, volunteer or sponsor a team member. Be persistent. Tell your story. Why have you decided to lead a team? Do you have a personal connection to MS?
  • Raise Funds: The Bike MS, Colorado’s Ride raises money for MS research and services, and each person on your team is a key part of this mission and is responsible for collecting and turning in money.
  • Communicate: The Team Captain is the liaison between the team and the National MS Society. Communicate with your team about registration, informational clinics and fundraising ideas.
  • Motivate: Recognize members who go above and beyond. Emphasize the mission behind the Ride. Motivate your team to raise money.
