The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is seeking a Program Planning Intern for its Northern California Chapter located in Santa Clara.
About the National MS Society
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is the oldest and largest nonprofit MS organization and the only voluntary health organization in the U.S. supporting international MS research. The Society supports more MS research and serves more people with MS than any other organization in the world. The Northern California chapter funds local programs and services for people with MS and their families, and supports the Society’s research mission to find a cure for this chronic and often disabling disease of the central nervous system.
Program Planning, Event Coordinator, and Marketing Intern
Key Responsibilities
- Research non-profit and community sections of local print media, and online media
- Manage and create content for online and printed community calendars in local media
- Create and maintain Speakers’ Bureau
- Manage NMSS online and monthly printed calendar
- Marketing
- Plan and execute email and internet ad campaigns
- Event Logistics and Program Planning
- Create and maintain venue database
- Perform accessibility checks
- Prepare written event materials
- Schedule venues
- Attend events and provide setup and registration assistance at events
Initial Impact
This position is critical to enabling in the Silicon Valley region the mission of the National MS Society which is to provide support and quality educational programs to persons with MS, as well as their friends and family. This position will also impact the work in all of the 40 counties served by the Northern California Chapter of National MS Society. Initially, this position will expand capacity in the Santa Clara Office by allowing program staff to re-focus their energy on services to clients and allow the intern to take responsibility for some program areas.

This position will produce sustained benefits: an up-to-date database of local media outlets, an up-to-date Speakers’ Bureau, and an up-to-date Venue Database.
Training & Support
This intern will be supported in their professional development as a marketer and an event planner. Training will include, but is not limited to: venue accessibility check training and Adobe software training.
Commitment
- At least 6 months; prefer 1 year
- At least 10 hours a week; mostly weekdays, with occasional weekend or evening events
- Location of volunteer assignment is National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Santa Clara Office
Qualifications
- Superb written English Ability to produce for online and written media
- Ability to access newspaper departmental staff
- Mass Communications and Advertising background Program planning experience
- InDesign and Photoshop Experience preferred

This is an unpaid intern position. If desired, this internship may be performed for college credit.
