Special Event Internship

The National MS Society, Northern California Chapter is looking for a dynamic, energetic, responsible and organized individual to join the Bike MS Team. The Bike MS: Waves to Wine Ride is the Chapter’s largest fundraising event, yielding over $2 million dollars annually.   This year’s ride is September 22-23, 2012 and is a 150-mile ride from San Francisco up to wine country.  An estimated 2,000 cyclists and 800 volunteers will participate.

The Special Event Internship is an exciting position within the MS Society’s Northern California Chapter, working directly with the Bike MS Manager to assist in coordinating certain aspects of the Bike MS.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct grassroots marketing efforts including:
  • Organize Bike to Work Day events for Bike MS (May 10)
  • Manage volunteers to represent Bike MS at AMGEN Tour of Champions (May 13-15)
  • Organize distribution of Bike MS posters to bike shops, coffee houses, and other neighborhood places of interest
  • Attend bike club meetings to give a presentation on Bike MS
  • Attend events to represent the National MS Society
  • Arrange Bike MS recognition events including:
  • Top fundraiser party in June
  • Corporate Breakfast in June
  • Kick off party in May in SF
  • Coordinate event management processes including:
  • Provide logistical information for the weekend to participating bike shops
  • Coordinate event packet preparation and distribution
  • Perform in-kind solicitations
  • Manage prize fulfillment process
  • Create and maintain a list of potential teams for Bike MS
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Available on event weekend: September  22-23, 2012
  • Computer-literate and willing to learn
  • Professional demeanor in-person and on the phone
  • Must be willing to ask questions, think creatively, and brainstorm for fun new ideas for the Bike MS events
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to effectively work on several complex projects simultaneously
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to successfully prioritize work
  • Ability to work effectively with large groups
  • A strong sense of purpose and a passion for working in an open, friendly environment while working to build a wonderful event!

This position will allow for professional growth, networking, and a behind the scenes look at the ins and outs of event management.
