Feldenkrais

User Options:

The Feldenkrais method helps people with MS learn to move with minimum effort and maximum efficiency. It’s a gentle and safe way to increase mobility and vitality while reducing habitual and unnecessary stresses on the body. The resulting relaxation and awareness can benefit coordination, fatigue, flexibility, and spasticity.

Moshe Feldenkrais, a physicist and judo expert, sustained knee injuries early in life that limited him in middle age. Doctors said they couldn’t help, implying that he would have to live with chronic pain and impaired mobility. Intelligent and motivated, Feldenkrais set out to help himself.

Using his scientific skills, he discovered that he could teach himself to move in healthier ways. He devised a method that involved more widespread use of his muscles, lessening the strain on the overworked, injured muscles. After extensive study of the nervous system, he discovered that through touch and movement, he could communicate with his brain and release his overworked muscles from their contracted state. Then Feldenkrais set out to share what he had learned. Now the Feldenkrais Method is practiced worldwide.

Learn the Feldenkrais method in "Awareness Through Movement," an eight-week course affiliated with the Chapter. For more information, contact us at 1-800-344-4867, (415) 230-6677.
