FROM THE CHAPTER STAFF

Jessica rides at the San Diego International Triathlon
Not only do I work for the chapter, but I fundraise & train with Race to Stop MS!

It's hard to believe that 2011 is here and we're already into February! The chapter is looking forward to what the new year holds for us after a remarkable 2010. Take a moment to view the annual report to see all the work the chapter and our supporters accomplished last year. Or, look at the MSConnection below for a year in review of MS research and much more.

I've been a part of the chapter for over six years and I'm in awe of the kind of progress that has been made in such a short time; it is truly an exciting time to be involved with the Society. When I first started with the chapter, I had no connection to MS. Now, the volume of the word "multiple sclerosis" has been turned up and I've come to know many people affected by this unpredictable disease. Each story inspires me and I love getting the opportunity to spread the word to our media partners. I would love to know your experience! If you want to help increase MS awareness by sharing your story, please email me.

Here's to a great 2011!

WE CAN HELP
The chapter provides a number of programs and services to our members, including financial support. One example of the support we offer can be seen in the help given to Rob G. and his family.

Rob and his familyRob, a 42 year-old husband and father of 3 children, was diagnosed with MS at the age of 25. He had to leave the workforce due to the progression of MS. He is extremely dependent on his wife for daily care. In an effort to remain safely in his home with his family, he reached out to the chapter for help. He asked for a grant to assist with a 20% co-payment for a customized wheelchair and a bathroom remodel to allow him to access his bathroom independently.

Through the chapter's Financial Assistance Program and with the help of additional community partners, his request was fulfilled. This husband and father is now able to continue to live in his home with his family. He is just one of many people we help every day. If you are in need of financial assistance, email Sandi Ames for more information or call (800) 344-4867 and press '1' to request an application today.
