Where will the Charleston Challenge 2012 be held?

When is the Charleston Challenge 2012 ?
The Charleston Challenge 2012 will be March 2-4, 2012.
Where do we sleep?
Wild Dunes Resort is the host location for the Charleston Challenge 2012. Walkers and Super Crew Members will be able to stay free of charge Friday & Saturday nights, while Crew Members will be responsible for a $50/person per night housing fee (Friday & Saturday nights). Guests not planning on walking or volunteering may register and stay for $50/person per night for Friday and Saturday nights.
If you need accommodations on Thursday and/or Sunday night, please indicate this on your registration form. We will submit a rooming list to the hotel. You will be invoiced $75/person per night if you choose to stay on Thursday night. Discount pricing is not available for Sunday night. You may also choose to stay at one of our partner hotels.
How do I register for the Charleston Challenge 2012 ?
You can register online. The next page will ask you if you want to register as an individual, as part of an existing team, or if you would like to create a new team. Click the link that best represents your desires and follow the directions from there! Remember, if you are a returning participant, please log in with your username and password before registering. You can also register by calling the chapter office at 1-800-344-4867.
Is there a registration fee?

$65 Registration Fee (January 1-February 28)
What happens after I register?
You will receive a confirmation email and a registration packet in the mail. You should now begin your fundraising efforts!
Who can participate?
Everyone! Participants must be 14 years or older to walk. All Walkers, Crew and Super Crew members between the ages of 12 and 17 must be accompanied by a participating parent or guardian at all times. Valid medical health insurance is recommended but NOT required.
How much money should I raise for the Charleston Challenge 2012?
Walkers must raise a minimum of $1,500*. However, we encourage all of our participants to set a fundraising goal of $2,500 to gain membership into our exclusive Top Fundraiser Club. *Please note that all walkers are responsible for raising or personally donating a minimum of $1,500 to participate in this event. This amount does not include the registration fee.
Where do the funds I raise go?
Funds raised support the work of the National MS Society, addressing the challenges of each person affected by MS. In 2010 alone, through its national office and 50-state network of chapters, the National MS Society devoted $159 million to programs and services that assisted more than one million people. To move us closer to a world free of MS, the Society also invested $37 million to support 325 new and ongoing research projects around the world. Are donations to the National MS Society through Charleston Challenge 2012 tax deductible?
Yes! Donations to the National MS Society through the Charleston Challenge 2012 campaign are tax deductible. Donors giving $250 or more will receive a letter of acknowledgement from the National MS Society as a tax receipt. All participants will have access to receipts to distribute for donations less than $250.
When and how do I turn in money?
Avoid mailing money by raising funds online through your Participant Center! If you do receive checks and cash donations for the Charleston Challenge 2012 , please mail them to:

All checks should be made payable to the National MS Society. Please, make sure you include "Charleston Challenge 2012" and your name in the memo line of all checks and a note with all cash so that we know who should receive the fundraising credit.
Is the route fully accessible?
Our route is fully accessible along city streets so people of all mobility levels can participate in the event. Additionally, we provide a vehicle capable of transporting a wheelchair as well as SAG vehicles along the route for participants who may need extra help.
What happens if I can’t walk the distance each day?
We have Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles along the route to move walkers ahead.
What is a “day bag”?
You will be given an orange drawstring bag at Registration for you to put your extra clothing in. You will take the day bags with you on the bus to the start site, and then the bags will be transported to lunch and to the finish line.
What time do our family and friends need to be at Wild Dunes for Closing Ceremonies on Sunday?
Family and Friends need to be at the Sweet Grass Pavilion in the Tides Ballroom by 10:30am.
Why do we need to have “walking shoes” that are at least a size too large?
Your feet will swell during the walk weekend and you will need the extra room.
What is the weather going to be like during the walk?
Typically, in early March in Charleston, the temperatures will be in the 40’s in the morning and will warm up to the 60’s in the afternoon. It will be important to wear layers.
Who will be supporting us on the 2.75 mile New Cooper River Bridge?
We will have two bike medics, along with an additional four cyclists to offer extra support. There will not be vehicle SAGs, a rest stop or port-a-let on the bridge.
Do you have medical staff at the rest stops?
Yes, we will have trained and licensed medical professional at the rest stops.
