GettingUSCovered is a new, comprehensive health plan created by the federal government, established to expand coverage to Coloradans who have been uninsured for at least six months and who have a medical condition that prevents them from getting insured.
Eligibility is not based on income and does not cost any more than the rates of individuals without health conditions.
Participants are not subject to a waiting period, so coverage for all health conditions is available to qualified applicants upon approval into the plan.
You are eligible for GettingUSCovered if you meet all four eligibility requirements below:
- You are a resident of Colorado;
- You are a United States citizen or are lawfully present in the United States;
- You have not had Creditable Coverage for at least six (6) months prior to applying for GettingUSCovered; AND
- You have a pre-existing health condition.
You must provide evidence of a pre-existing condition in one of the following ways:
- Provide a denial letter from an insurer, indicating that you have been denied an individual health insurance plan because you have a pre-existing condition (the medical condition must be referenced in this letter): OR
- Provide an acceptance letter from an Insurer, indicating that you have been accepted for coverage under an individual health plan but with a reduction in coverage or an exclusion of coverage for your pre-existing condition; OR
- Provide a letter from your treating physician that you have one of the medical conditions on the GettingUSCovered presumptive list of medical conditions
To determine if you are eligible for the state or federal plan, fill out the online questionnaire available at www.gettinguscovered.com.
