Frequently Asked Questions
My car is not running; can I still donate it?
Yes, we accept all cars and trucks, all that we ask is that you are honest about the condition of your car. This helps us avoid losing money on your vehicle.
Why can't you take all boats and RVs?
While we would love to take everything, the vehicles that are primarily fiberglass or wood are not easily recycled and often cost us money to dispose of. They need to have some salvageable quality.
I do not have a title for my vehicle; can I still donate?
Unfortunately, we are not allowed, by law, to take vehicles without titles. Many Motor Vehicle Administrations will print you a duplicate title for a minimal charge. This includes lien releases, which should accompany your title. We can help you acquire lien releases and titles.
How long does it take to have my car towed?
Typically, once all the information has been received, your car will be towed in five to 10 business days. We are willing to work with you on special situations.
My car is in another state; can I still donate?
Yes, The MS Auto Donor Program will handle your donation nationwide.
When will I get my receipt?
Receipts are sent within about two months after your car has been towed. The National MS Society places no values on vehicles.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
The National MS Society is a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation, so your donation may be tax-deductible. Since each case is different, donors should always contact a tax specialist.
Do the proceeds really go to help those with MS?
Yes. Because the program is run solely by the National MS Society, there are no private contractors to pay. Expenses for the program include advertising, administration, towing and auction fees. The remainder is used for local programs and national/local research. A copy of our annual report can be sent when requested.
Can I help with the towing expense?
Yes, we appreciate towing donations and your donation is tax-deductible as well.
What do I do with my title?
When the towing company comes to pick up your car, give the title and keys to them and they will pass them along to us. Please just sign and date the title.
