New Budget Includes State Funded Pilot Home Care Program for Adults with Disabilities Ages 18 – 64
Thanks to your support, the Connecticut General Assembly and Governor Rell’s FY 2008-2009 state budget includes an appropriation and language for the development of a state-funded pilot home care program for adults with disabilities who are ages between the ages of 18 and 64!
For the past two years activists from the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter and more than 20 advocacy groups worked diligently to lobby the Connecticut General Assembly and Gov. Rell for the development of a pilot program that will help younger adults with disabilities obtain access to home care services and case management.
The new state-funded pilot home care program for adults with disabilities will mirror the CT Home Care Program for Elders by providing services to a maximum of 50 adults with disabilities, ages 18 to 64, who are at risk of going into a nursing home or who are prematurely living in a nursing home. The pilot will include case management services that can be helpful for individuals who have difficulty managing their own care.
