MS Thrivers Self-Help Group

"MS Thrivers" : A new self-help group coming to the DC area

When: Second Saturday of each month, starting October 13, 2012, from 10am-12pm
Where: Wheaton Community Recreation Center
11711 Georgia Avenue
Wheaton, MD 20902

The mission of MS Thrivers is to help each attendee to take an active role in the management of their disease. To control what they can control. To see what is possible. To thrive with MS.

The monthly agenda for each meeting will start with some form of physical or mental exercise, adapted to the interests and physical abilities of the group. Other agenda items will include:

- Inspirational examples of how others with MS live and thrive with the disease
- Lecture sessions from experts about techniques for staying well with MS
- Goal setting and developing appropriate exercise and wellness programs for MS.

The only criteria to join this group is a commitment and desire to live as well as possible with MS and to encourage others in the same endeavor. Participants are welcome to bring family and friends in their support systems. The group will be led by Gary Pinder. Gary has lived with MS for 17 years and, to complement MS maintenance drugs which he has remained fully compliant with, has utilized exercise and other wellness techniques as a key strategy for remaining as well as possible. Gary and his family recently hiked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
