MID FLORIDA SELF HELP GROUPS
The Mid Florida Chapter of the NMSS offers 30 self-help groups throughout the chapter area. These groups bring together people who share common life desires for support, education and mutual aid.
Members of self-help groups share a belief that positive personal change happens through individual efforts with the support of others. The Society recognizes the valuable role self-help groups can play in addressing the informational, emotional and social support needs of our members.
Some of the benefits of self-help groups include:
> Learning new information and strategies for confronting problems.
> Finding reassurance and support from others with similar life experiences.
> Developing a connection to a community and personal identification with a social group.
> Feeling empowered and more self-confident in coping with challenges.
Trained volunteer facilitators lead all self-help groups. All groups must meet the guidelines and standards that have been determined by our national office.
