I was diagnosed with MS in 2004. During that time I would run a couple of miles to stay in shape. A friend of mine asked me to run a marathon for a charity . I told him that he was crazy. He assured me that with the proper training I could do it. I accepted the challenge. I collected over $8,000 and ran the 2006 Marine Corps Marathon in 5:01’:00” after 20 weeks of training. After that I decided to pay forward the training received by the coach and trained 20+ people for the 2007 La Salle Bank Chicago Marathon and collected over $120,000 in donations for “Misioneros del Camino, Inc.” a non for profit organization. I also coached a group of 20+ to run the 2009 ING Miami Marathon with great success.

I began running recreationally about 15 years ago - it was a great release and a way to lose a few pounds in college. 4 miles back then was a long run. During my 1st year of law school, my dad and brother ran the New York City Marathon together. After hearing them describe the experience, I told my dad he had to run another race - with me! So in 2000, I crossed the finish line at the Chicago Marathon hand-in-hand with my father. Since then I have run 7 more full marathons - 5 times in New York City, the Inaugural Miami Marathon, the Inaugural Arizona Rock-n-Roll Marathon, as well as several half-marathons. I love running and I am so excited to “Run to Stop MS” so that people like my mom and cousin can soon be free of this disease!

I was raised with a strong commitment to give back to the community. With a parent on the Board of Trustees of the National MS Society, South Florida Chapter I have been involved with the Society since I could walk, talk and tell people about MS. Over the years I have met many people affected by the disease. I am a volunteer, fundraiser, a committee member for the MS Gala & Fashion Show and currently a mentor for the running team. In 2009 I was approached to join the Run to Stop MS team. I didn't think I could run a couple miles, let alone a half marathon. However, with the guidance of my mentors, teammates and the inspiration of people living with MS I crossed the finish line and surpassed my fundraising goal. With just two half marathons under my belt I decided to lottery for the NY Marathon and got in! This year I will run the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon, the ING Miami Marathon and the NY Marathon all to raise money for MS! I'm honored to be a mentor for the 2010 Run to Stop MS team! I run for those who cannot. I hope for the day where my friends no longer have to say "I have MS.”

I did my first marathon in June 1996 when I turned 50 years old. Since then I have completed 14 full marathons and countless half marathons throughout the United States including Alaska, California, New York and Tennessee. I have also participated in the 60 mile Breast Cancer Walk and the 50 mile MS Walk. To me "it is all about the finish," and being one who moves forward with MS since my diagnosis in 1990. Everything in life has a finish and this mantra has seen me through life's more difficult challenges! I have met numerous good friends, visited beautiful cities and helped many walkers reach their goals as a coach, group leader and organizer of a marathon training group.

I ran my first half marathon in January 2008 at the Disney Endurance Series. As I was training for my third half marathon and completed the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K in 2009, I was diagnosed with MS. My goal is to help the National MS Society create awareness. As the mentor from Puerto Rico, I have helped form a group of runners who will participate in the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. I understand the purpose of my existence and that is why I “Run to Stop MS!"
