Athens Based Volunteer Opportunities:
Friday, May 4th
Bike Compound Set up: 10am-1pm
Site Set up (tents, banners, hydration, remove SAG seats): 10am-3pm
Assist the site coordinator in setting up areas such as the Start Line, Overnight, and Finish Line by setting up supplies and equipment; i.e., tables, tents, chairs, banners, signs, etc. Moderate to heavy lifting is required.
Saturday, May 5th and Sunday, May 6th
Luggage Truck un-loading (Saturday 10am-1pm) 10 people
Unload the luggage when it arrives in Athens. Place it in an orderly fashion in the ballroom so that it will be easy to retrieve when cyclists arrive at the finish.
Luggage retrieval (Saturday 12:30-4:30pm, 2-6pm, 4-7pm) 4 people per shift
When cyclists return to retrieve their luggage, check their rider number and send another volunteer at luggage retrieval to bring their bag up.
Bike Compound Hospitality (Saturday12-3:30pm, 3:30-7pm, 7-9pm and Sunday 6-8am)2 people per shift
Check-in and check-out bikes, answer cyclist questions, greet cyclists and thank them. Monitor the bikes.
Hydration Tent (Saturday 11:00am-3:00pm, 3-6:30pm and Sunday 6-9am) 3 people per shift
Assist with setting up the hydration area. Mixing PowerAde, adding water to the dispenser coolers and keeping them full while cyclists are there
Shuttle Driver (Saturday 12-4:30pm, 3-7:30pm and Sunday 5:30am-8:30am) 2 drivers shift times staggered
We will be providing shuttles for cyclists to travel to the host hotels. You will drive a loop around the downtown area stopping at various hotels to drop off cyclists. Driver’s must submit to a motor vehicle check and provide us a copy of their driver’s license.
Shuttle Greeters (Saturday 12-3:45pm, 3:45-7:30pm and Sunday 5:30-8:30am) 4 people per shift
We will be providing shuttles for cyclists to travel to the host hotels. Bikes are NOT allowed on shuttles. Greeters will assist in keeping order with loading cyclists onto the various shuttle vans.
Rider Services Tent (Saturday 12-3:30pm, 3:30-7pm, 7-9pm and Sunday 6-8am) 1 person per shift
Assist our staff in providing maps to cyclists and answering general questions with regards to the day’s schedule. This is a seated position.
Luggage Truck Loading (Sunday 5:45-9am) 10 people
Cyclists will have a bag with their clothes for the next day and overnight. You will assist with collecting the luggage, making sure there is an id tag on it and loading it in an orderly fashion on the truck.
Site Takedown (Sunday 9am-12pm) 15 people
Assist the site coordinator in taking down the site, loading up trucks and cleaning up the area. Moderate to heavy lifting is required.
Bike Compound Take Down (Sunday 830am-12pm) 10 people
Assist with dismantling the bike compound and loading it onto the truck. It is a series of wooden stands and galvanized poles. Bending and lifting approx 10 pounds.
Medical (Saturday and Sunday) 2 people
Provide medical assistance at the start finish location in the afternoon on Saturday and morning on Sunday. Volunteers must be licensed or certified professionals for this position.
