About Sen. Mike Johanns, National MS Society Senator of the Year
Each year, the National MS Society recognizes elected officials who work to improve the lives of people affected by multiple sclerosis and continue to support the Society and its policy priorities. Sen. Johann’s commitment to enhance and improve the lives of those living MS is reflected in his support of the following legislative advances.

Sen. Johanns, a strong ally and supporter of advancing MS research, co-led a Dear Colleague letter with Sen. Whitehouse (RI) calling for continued funding for MS research in the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) in FY 2012. Due to his support, $3.8 million for MS research was provided for in the CDMRP last year. Sen. Johanns co-sponsored the National MS and Parkinson’s Disease Registry Act, now titled the National Neurological Diseases Surveillance System Act (S. 425), which will establish a national system to track and collect data on the epidemiology, incidence, prevalence and other factors of neurological diseases, including MS.

About David Osmond, The Second Osmond Generation - Rockin’ It To End MS
Whether performing on American Idol or recording a song that stirs the soul while getting your toes tapping, David Osmond has been inspiring people with the MS message since his diagnosis in 2006. Earlier in his MS journey, he couldn't walk, his breathing labored that he couldn't sing, and playing guitar was impossible. "I thought music was done for me," David said. Fortunately, he regained much of his function.

David is the son of Alan Osmond, the founder of the famed troupe of singing brothers, who also lives with MS. David credits a favorite saying of his father's — "I may have MS but MS does not have me" — with helping him get back on stage. David knows there is no cure... yet. "It's something I deal with on a day to day basis, every minute," he said. David understands the symptoms that put him in a wheelchair once can reoccur at any time. He has made a commitment to raise funds for the MS movement.
