Economy Down, Volunteers Up!
Dr. Jennifer Bottomley Volunteer CCG |
During this difficult time of the Nation’s economic decline our Chapter is seeing an increase in the number of people who want to do something to help create a world free of MS. During the past several months our Chapter has engaged over 350 new volunteers from programs and events volunteers to those with technological, grant writing, educational and training skills, just to name a few.
Our two-day bike Ride, the Cape Cod Getaway, scheduled on June 27 and 28 will utilize more than 500 volunteers in order to make this ride run smoothly for the 1,700 cyclists who participate in this event. Some volunteers will work in our office and put together more than 6,000 packets of material before the ride, while others help establish sponsorship relationships or work on committees. And let us not fail to remember the event volunteers, whose job it is to take care of the cyclists during their two day, 150-mile journey from Quincy to Provincetown on Cape Cod. Those event volunteers cut oranges, mix Gatorade, pour water, make peanut butter sandwiches, wrap pulled muscles, fix flats, load and unload 1,700 bikes and off load even more luggage over the two-day ride. We could not make this event happen without a single one of them.
Another of our 2009 Bike MS events is the one-day New Hampshire Seacoast Escape. On August 8, cyclists will have the opportunity to take in the beautiful scenery and less-traveled roads of this new ride on the New Hampshire coast. There are many volunteer opportunities for this ride and we would love to have your support!
As you can see, there are many different ways volunteers can make a difference! Please consider being part of our great team of volunteers and Join the Movement to Create a World Free of MS. You will be making a difference in the lives of more than 14,000 people and their families throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire who live with multiple sclerosis every day.

Volunteer to Become a 2009 Champion Against MS!
Champions Against MS strives to connect people living with MS and event participants to foster education, gratitude, and most importantly, hope.
As a Champion you are encouraged to connect before, during and/or after the event with the cyclist(s) or team with which we match you. You are adding depth to an event participant’s experience by increasing awareness of our mission and serving as a critical part in the fight against MS. You are providing your cyclist(s) or team with hope, inspiration and encouragement. They may be able to do the same for you!
