2010 Scholarship Award Recipients
The Greater New England Chapter is extremely proud of the 27 students who received MS Scholarships this year, totaling more than $55,000, within Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. National MS Society Scholarships are presented annually to select students across the country, who have a parent with MS or who themselves have MS, and are pursuing a college or technical school education.
Physical Wellness
Exercise is essential to general health and well-being, and can be helpful for most people with MS. The Chapter’s Wellness Referral Network and Scholarship Reimbursement program is a great way to become or stay active despite having MS. Instructors listed on the network have participated in a professional training on MS and are teaching local yoga, aquatics, tai chi/chi gong, and fitness classes in your community. For people with MS who participate in wellness opportunities with these instructors, a scholarship reimbursement is available for half the cost of the class (up to $50) three times a year. For more details and to see the Chapter’s current and recently expanded list of instructors visit our Physical Wellness web page.

Everyone Can Join Walk MS and Bike MS
By Marcella Durand
You’ve got a wedding the same day? You don’t own a bike? Your MS makes it impossible to walk more than a block?
You can still participate, even if you aren’t there in person. People with MS across the nation have found a variety of ways to take part in Bike MS or Walk MS events.
“Virtual” riders and walkers often do everything a Bike MS or Walk MS participant does, without actually riding or walking. They may create a team, raise money and even earn fundraising prizes. They walk in their own neighborhood on a day that works for them. They ride an exercise bike in their own home to log the same 150 miles as a Bike MS rider, but at their own pace. Still others volunteer at an event—there are plenty of things that need doing, such as helping out at registration and cheering on riders and walkers.
To register or learn more, call us at 1-800-344-4867 to find out what virtual events we offer or visit the our Web site.
