Unsung Heroes of the MS Challenge Walk

This year we recognize a few of the crew who have been a huge part of the Challenge Walk.

Ralph Anderson Ralph Anderson

Ralph has brought joy and laughter to our walkers for a number of years. A hamburger hat showed up one year and we knew exactly the person to wear it, since he has been on the lunch crew. Ralph and the famous hat have probably had more pictures taken of him than anyone else. No matter how hot it might be, Ralph is not without his hat on the route!

Andrew Child

Andrew Child has been photographing the Challenge since 2003. Andrew is out on the route each day, capturing the many miles that the walkers walk, and the amazing crew, staff, and volunteers giving of their time and seemingly endless energy. During our evening programs, we have been able to reflect back on the day by watching the slide show that Andrew and other photographers have pulled together.

Ruth Stokes

Ruth Stokes

Known as the lady in pink, Ruth completely organizes and runs the medical porch. She has also been responsible for getting a lot of our medical supplies donated. Ruth is always saying, “just let me know what you want me to do. “

Clayton Wicker

Most walkers and Crew never see Clayton. He and his wife Barbara are our Net Control and Clayton coordinates all of the Radio operators along the route for three full days. Many of you who have walked for a number of years, heard Clayton speak at the Saturday night program in 2005. One thing he said that still rings true today was, “Strength given to all of us who wear the Red Shirts on Sunday. Strength coming from all of you that you will support us. Support the research, support the treatments that one day, soon I hope, one day we all get to wear the Blue Shirts onto the Hyannis Common one last time.”
