Program Highlights
Complementary & Alternative Therapies in MS Treatment
“Complementary & Alternative Therapies in MS Treatment” seminar with nationally acclaimed neurologist & author Allen Bowling, MD, PhD was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Springfield, MA, on October 10. The program was a perfect opportunity for those in attendance to have their own questions answered by this expert in the field of complementary therapies used in multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Bowling, Director of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine Service at the Colorado Neurological Institute (CNI) and Medical Director of the Multiple Sclerosis Service at CNI, spoke about how important conventional medications & treatments are in MS, and how complementary therapies can be utilized along with the disease modifying and symptom management drugs. Topics discussed were exercise, vitamins (including the importance of having vitamin D levels checked), nutrition, stress management, and overall wellness.
Dr. Bowling’s books, “Complementary and Alternative Medicine and Multiple Sclerosis” and “Multiple Sclerosis: The Guide to Treatment and Management” are available through Demos Publications, Amazon.com or through the chapter’s Lending Library online at www.MSnewengland.org.
