Volunteer Hall of Fame 2011

The National MS Society’s Volunteer Hall of Fame is a place reserved for outstanding individuals who have given themselves entirely to create a world free of MS. The Greater New England Chapter is very well represented there with now 20 members, including three exemplary individuals were added to that hallowed hall in 2011.

Dr. Barbara GreenIn the “Funding the Mission” category: Dr. Barbara Green is a dynamic professional whose love for her husband moves hundreds of people and businesses to end MS. Walk MS Team Captain of "The Green Team," and member of the Women on the Move and Clinical Advisory Committees, Barbara continually raises the bar for herself and others; recruiting walkers, raising money, increasing awareness, and delivering the mission. Her quiet, professional manner belies her passion for the mission, and her ability to motivate others to take action.

Ken JonesIn the Advocacy category: Ken Jones is a true MS activist. His skilled leadership helped establish the New Hampshire Government Relations Committee, and has guided its work to repeated success on important issues, including accessible parking laws and state aid for people with MS in financial need. Ken leverages his political affiliations to advocate at the state level and at the annual Public Policy Conference. A chapter trustee and long-time Bike MS rider, Ken is an accessible skiing instructor.

Dr. Peter RiskindAnd, in the Health Professionals category: Dr. Peter Riskind, Director of the UMass Memorial MS Center, brings imagination to his role as Chair of the Chapter's Clinical Advisory Committee. He inspired new chapter approaches to engage a larger audience for patient and physician education. Passionate about mentoring inexperienced neurologists in quality, comprehensive clinical care of MS patients, he helped establish the chapter’s medical student summer internship, and annually hosts clinical fellowships. He frequently speaks at research donor cultivation events, and serves as a chapter spokesperson in media interviews.
