Volunteer Job Description

Department: Chapter Programs & Services
Title: Computer Outreach Program Technical Support Volunteers

Reports to: NH Community Program Coordinator
Location: Chapter wide

Position Summary:
Technical Support Volunteers needed for new program that provides laptops and computers to individuals with MS that are restricted to their homes or live in long-term care and do not have access to a computer or internet.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Refurbish donated computers to meet program needs; install software
  • Delivery and setup of new computers to client’s homes
  • Provide overview of basic computer operations to client upon delivery
  • Follow up with recipients of the equipment by providing virtual tech support via Skype, email, website and phone calls

Qualifications:

  • An IT background is helpful but not required. The position requires knowledge of the following:
    • Windows-based machines
    • How to connect a machine to the internet via Ethernet or wireless
    • Re-image donated machines with licensed software
    • Troubleshoot issues regarding any equipment
    • Social media, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
    • Adaptive/assistive and free software such as Dragon Speech Zoom Text, Skype
  • Clean background CORI check

Training/Orientation Provided:

  • Training on Computer Outreach Program and overview of computer software to be installed
  • Ongoing support provided by programs staff liaison

Time Commitment:

  • Will vary depending upon computer refurbishing and delivery needs
  • Minimum one year commitment
