Description

The National MS Society, Minnesota Chapter is seeking a Public Policy Intern to work up to 20 hours per week, beginning early February.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement plans for MS Capitol Conference.
    • Develop and write training materials for nearly 100 people with MS.
    • Review applications and maintain communication with attendees.
    • Coordinate legislative appointments.
    • Coordinate communications to volunteer team leaders from each district.
  • Assist with implementation of Virtual Lobby Day.
  • Collect video stories from activists in the weeks before VLD.
  • Coordinate online training with activists.
  • Coordinate conference call appointments with activists and legislators.
  • Develop and maintain a tracking system for grassroots activism activities.
  • Investigate opportunities for activists to get involved in communities statewide.
  • Assist grassroots lobbying activities including educating members about public policy issues and mobilizing members to contact their legislators.
  • Research legislative issues including researching bill introductions and tracking of bills.
  • Attend and track actions taken during legislative committee hearings.
  • Attend and track actions taken in disability coalition meetings.

Requirements:

  • Requires a person who acts professionally, represents the MS Society in a professional and positive manner, can work with all types of people and can communicate effectively.
  • Interest in learning more about event planning and public affairs career in the nonprofit sector.
  • Major or minor in political science, public health, public affairs, public relations or related field.
  • Experience in lobbying and/or political or grassroots activities a plus.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Experience and interest in using social media tools.
