The National MS Society knows multiple sclerosis is an ever-changing disease and equipment needs will vary throughout the course of the disease. The Equipment Loan Program allows people living with MS to “try out” durable medical equipment before making an important purchase, or to simply borrow equipment to address a temporary need related to the unpredictable nature of MS.
Durable medical equipment, such as scooters and wheelchairs, can help many people with MS remain independent and improve their day-to-day living.
Equipment available in the loan pool includes:
- Commodes
- Hospital beds
- Bedrails
- Manual wheelchairs Patient lifts
- Scooters
- Power wheelchairs Shower chairs
- Tub benches
- Walkers
Eligibility
Equipment is available to registered members of the National MS Society who live in or are visiting the chapter service area. Individuals must obtain a prescription from their physician and authorization from the chapter prior to any equipment loan.
How it works
Delivery is available in the Twin Cities, Hutchinson, Duluth, Brainerd, and Sioux Falls areas. Members outside these areas can arrange to pick up equipment at one of these locations.
Loans can be made for a maximum of three months, with the exception of scooters, electric wheelchairs and ramps which have a maximum loan period of three weeks.
Although need is not always predictable, people are encouraged to plan ahead when possible, because equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
