Wanted: People who love summer, love to share their story and want to make changes for people affected by MS
We need people throughout the state to help us build our grassroots network, and summer is the perfect time!
Summer means picnics, community festivals, parades and chatting with neighbors. Your legislators and other elected officials are often at these events, too! With your help we can build relationships and raise awareness about MS.
The MS Society wants to keep track of all the places elected officials will be this summer and fall. This way we can inform other MS activists about these opportunities in their communities where they can share their story and raise awareness. It’s hard to keep track of all these places on our own and that’s why we need your help!
The MS Society is looking for people who can research community events online, are interested in public policy, have a connection to MS and enjoy checking out festivals and other fun activities in the community.
Can you commit to being a community activist this summer and fall?
Here’s what we need you to do:
- Research your local elected officals or candidates by signing up for their email alerts, following them on Facebook or Twitter, or reading the newspaper regularly.
- Communicate with the MS Society about any upcoming candidate events or news in your community. (We will provide you with a simple form to collect and send the details.)
- Attend at least one events in your community to talk to raise awareness.
- Help the MS Society promote the town hall meetings we have planned for the summer and fall.
- Reach out to other members of your community who are affected by MS and ask them to attend summer events.
- Help with voter registration and outreach as appopriate, and raise awareness about Election Day (Nov. 6)
Here’s what you’ll get:
- An “I’m an MS Activist” shirt to wear at community events.
- A toolkit with fun resources for promoting activism and voter education.
- Volunteer hours for the time you devote. (Anyone who volunteers 25 hours during the year gets an invitation to the Sylvies awards banquet)
- Access to contests and prizes.
How much commitment are we looking for?
We need activists between July and early November to help us find information about events in your community, raise awareness and promote MS Society advocacy activities. The amount of time you spend doing this is completely up to you. It can be anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple hours each week.
Are you signed up to receive important emails?
You'll be the first to hear about ways you can share your story to raise awareness and make changes in your community. It only takes a second!
