Office volunteers assist with the National MS Society’s daily operation from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of talents and skills. There is only one requirement: a desire to Join the Movement® to end multiple sclerosis. See job listings below. Volunteer job descriptions
Analyzer
Assist in analyzing data and communicating information that will help the special events department further its mission. Ongoing.
Bike MS assistant
Work with the Bike MS team in preparing for events during the two weeks prior to the Bike MS: SAM'S CLUB Twin Cities Ride, Bike MS: C.H. Robinson Worldwide MS 150 Ride, and Bike MS: Star Tribune TRAM Ride events. Ongoing.
Building maintenance assistant
Assist in maintaining the building both outside and inside through physical work including maintenance labor or warehouse organizing. Ongoing.
Care partner networking coordinator
Indentify and connect care partners of people with multiple sclerosis to participate in informal networking opportunities. Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote these opportunities. Ongoing.
Chapter publications designer
Work independently on the production aspect of completing the MS Connection newsletter. Assist communication staff in designing the layouts for the issues using a template and utilize your expertise in completing the project. Ongoing.
Cheer team coordinator
Recruit and organize cheer teams for special event finish lines. Coordinate the teams onsite and provide necessary information for the events. Ongoing.
Clean team assistant
Assist with clean-up post special events and prepare equipment and supplies for the next event. Ongoing.
Client services assistant
Assist and support social work staff with office tasks as necessary. This includes photocopying resource guides that will be given to interested parties as well as assist in recycling and shredding documents. Ongoing.
Client services resource assistant
Assist in updating the database of information on resources in the community and physician’s information through research using web tools provided. Update current resource information database with new findings. Ongoing.
Clinic researcher
Research clinics in the chapter service areas that treat people with multiple sclerosis and work with the programs director to establish relationships with each clinic. Ongoing.
Communications assistant
Assist the communications department in processing materials and mailings. This position includes working with the postage, folding and addressing machines as well as any other tasks that need to be completed. Ongoing.
Couples' networking coordinator
Indentify and connect couples with a person living with multiple sclerosis to participate in informal networking opportunities. Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote these opportunities. Ongoing.
Event appreciation communicator
Make personal contact with participants after events to extend the chapter’s gratitude in their participation. Ongoing.
Event outreach and registration assistant
Contact past special event participants to gather information about their participation and encourage current year registration. Ongoing.
Event pre-check-in assistant
Assist special event staff for pre check-in of participants for events, distribute information to the participants and answer questions. Ongoing.
Housing and independent living assistant
Assist the Programs Director in connecting people with multiple sclerosis to housing and independent living options. Ongoing.
In-kind donation assistant
Work towards gathering in-kind donations from businesses, hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. This is a position where the volunteer can call locations or it would be great for walk in visits but this is not necessary. Ongoing.
Inventory and assembly assistant
Inventory contents of first aid bins, warehouse supplies, and tool boxes and create spreadsheet of contents as well as organize supplies for special events. Ongoing.
Library resource assistant
Recruit and coordinate library critics to evaluate books, videos, and CD’s, mail out resources with the review form, process the resources and evaluations when they return including entering the information from the critics into a word document database. Ongoing.
Luggage coordinator
Recruit and organize groups for loading and unloading of bikes and luggage during the bike tours. This includes calling groups such as, hockey associations, football teams and other organizations to find physically-able volunteers. Provide onsite supervision of the volunteer groups to expedite luggage and bike transportation. Ongoing.
Mailroom volunteer supervisor
Supervise mailroom volunteer assistants in the communications department. This person will be available to trouble shoot problems, communicate among assistants and be available to deal with issues that arise. Along with supervising, the volunteer may also assist in communications department tasks. Ongoing.
Media awareness assistant
Search the internet and newspapers for media coverage of the MS Society and gather the articles for documentation. Ongoing.
Media release scheduler
Create a schedule of when to send out media releases for upcoming events and programs. Work with communication staff in expediting media releases. Ongoing.
Move it Forward coordinator
This program matches volunteers to people living with multiple sclerosis who may need assistance with tasks in their homes. This volunteer will match volunteers to tasks, recruit volunteers and develop marketing and outreach to promote the program to new volunteers and clients. Ongoing.
Movement Ambassador
Movement Ambassadors raise awareness in their communities and get rewarded for the things they do to educate and engage others. Movement Ambassadors talk to visitors at health fairs, speak in their communities and spread awareness wherever they go. Ongoing.
MS Annual Convention coordinator
Work with the Director of Programs to develop and implement the MS Annual Convention. The duties include but are not limited to engaging speakers, developing convention content, coordinating catering arrangements, preparing materials and registration. Ongoing.
MS Service Day Volunteers
Help plan and implement MS Service Day! Volunteers are needed to assist with program planning to identify potential service sites, research possible program donors and recruit day-of-service volunteers.
MS Thank-A-Thon Volunteer
Join us every other Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m., beginning Wednesday, May 19 to make thank you calls to program and special event volunteers, event participants and other donors and fundraisers. Help us convey deep and sincere gratitude to those who’ve joined the movement toward a world free of MS. Don’t like talking on the phone, but have good penmanship? Help us write personal thank-you notes instead!
On-call volunteer
Special office projects come up throughout the year. Join the on-call list to be contacted to help complete various projects. Ongoing.
Online expert
Assist the marketing department in developing new ideas in regards to its web resources. Utilize expertise to take the research of what techniques work best and help maintain these sites with updated information and respond to any concerns. Ongoing.
Photograph coordinator
Organize and manage digital photo libraries of chapter events and programs. Assist communications staff in formatting and placement of photos for chapter publications. Ongoing.
Photographer
Take photos for different programs including fundraising events special events and the MS Annual Convention. The photographers will use their prior expertise in the area of digital photography and framing to create images that will enhance the visual communication of the chapter. Ongoing.
Pledge fulfillment volunteer
Contact event participants to encourage them with the pledge fulfillment obligations. Ongoing.
Program and office volunteer assistant
Assist with office volunteer supervision and support to provide enhanced functions in chapter operations. Provide outstanding customer service to assist with program facilitation and assignments as needed. Ongoing.
Program and registration assistant
Provide outstanding customer service to assist with program registrations and other assignments as needed. Ongoing.
Program outcome evaluation assistant
Prepare and mail program outcome evaluations to programs and client service participants. Gather evaluation information and compile summaries of outcomes. Ongoing.
Research advocate program coordinator
Research and develop a research advocacy program. Coordinate the implementation of the program chapter wide. Ongoing.
Sign crew leader
Lead a signage crew for the Bike MS: C.H. Robinson Worldwide MS 150 Ride and Bike MS: Star Tribune TRAM Ride consisting of about 8 people. Work with the team to organize the sign aspect of the Bike MS events effectively, including driving the bike route, making signs, posting the signs and taking down the signs after the event. These events occur every year, which would allow you to gain personal growth in this position from year to year. Ongoing.
Special events volunteer associate
Assist with tasks to prepare volunteers for events and follow up. Duties include but are not limited to recruitment of volunteers for groups, researching, writing emails, assembling and mailing volunteer packets, making phone calls, and sending thank you letters. Ongoing.
State fair education booth coordinator
Coordinate the education booth for the Minnesota State Fair. Duties include but are not limited to working with varies chapter departments on theme and volunteers, coordinating with the State Fair, assisting with and organizing training of volunteers and providing supervision of volunteers during the fair. Ongoing.
Team builder associate
Reach out to smaller special event teams and provide resources and strategies to build their team numbers. Work with team captains to encourage them in their team growth and respond to team needs. Ongoing.
Team fundraising assistant
Research locations for teams to fundraise within the Twin Cities. Some examples include Cub, Waterpark of America, coffee shops, etc. Brainstorm ideas for fundraising, call locations to gather information about their fundraising programs, and compile information gathered in word document format.Ongoing.
Team rally assistant
Assists the team development staff to develop and implement the annual Team Rally. Ongoing.
Warehouse coordinator
Recruit, direct and supervise volunteers to successfully stock special event support vehicles and provide direction after the events in warehousing materials and supplies. Ongoing.
