Walk MS: Hudson ambassador 2010, diagnosed in 2005

What do you remember most from the day you were diagnosed?
I remember first being scared and then quickly deciding to re-prioritize my life. I quit my job that was the source of my MS flare-up and decided to pursue portrait photography full time. Life is too short and can change too quickly to not pursue your passions. I also started researching and learning as much as I could about MS and finding good neurologists.

Why did you decide to participate in Walk MS: Hudson?
My family and I have participated in the walk since 2005. In 2008, we formed our first Walk MS team: Martini Sippers to End MS. During Christmas 2008, my friend Sue was hospitalized with an MS attack, and this really motivated me and my friends to take action against this disease. Our first-year team was more than 70 people (and five dogs) strong, and we will keep growing and walking until MS is stopped.

What do you enjoy most about the Hudson walk?
I enjoy walking with my friends, family and dogs in our bright orange team shirts. We enjoy displaying our connection and determination to end MS. It's great to meet new people and learn about their experiences with MS. Everyone I've met has a positive outlook and is ready to find a cure!

What is one thing you wish people could understand about MS?
There are many people with MS and the disease affects each individual differently. One day we may feel great and the next day it's hard to even get out of bed. I always hear "But you look so good!" That may be the case, but usually I am fatigued or have a tingling sensation in my legs. There is no cure right now; but I truly believe that in my lifetime, we will find a cure and end MS.
