The Gateway Area Chapter accepts interns of all backgrounds ranging from nonprofit administration to social work. Because of the volume of applications received, it is recommended that you submit application materials in the semester preceding the one in which you wish to intern.
Following are the positions available:
Communications Intern
This position will support the overall communications efforts of the Chapter including media relations, news and feature story development and website writing and maintanence. Interns work on a variety of projects to strengthen the Chapter's visibility in our 90-county service area. This internship is offered in the St. Louis office only.

Fundraising & Development Intern
These positions will assist with the research, development, marketing, &/or implementation of the special events, fundraising tactics & campaigns, and update current Chapter fundraising sources in order to enhance the support provided to event participants and make the programs & services offered to those living with MS and their families possible. These internships are offered in the offices located in St. Louis, Columbia, Metro Illinois and Cape Girardeau.

Individual Giving Intern
These positions will support the efforts of the Chapter's donor-based campaigns including donor acknowledgement, grant writing and database management. These interns will work on a variety of projects to strengthen the donor development plan. Event Planning is only offered in the Spring Semester. Nonprofit Administration is only offered during Summer and Fall. These internships are offered in the St. Louis office only.
Nonprofit Administration Intern
These positions provide an encompassing view of managing a nonprofit agency. Main duties include assisting with fundraising events, recruiting volunteers, tracking financial records and assisting with all other administrative duties. These internships are offered in the Metro Illinois, Cape Girardeau, and Columbia offices.

Programs Intern
These positions will participate in developing, implementing and documenting programs and services to people with multiple sclerosis and their families. Within the programs department, this intern may focus on assistance requests for community resources, information and referral or development programs. These internships are offered in the St. Louis office only.

Public Policy Intern
This position will support the advocacy efforts of the chapter through monitoring proposed legislation, organizing and communicating with grassroots volunteers, and helping to distill complicated legislative issues into simple language for a variety of audiences.
Long-Term Care Intern
This position will work within the Client Programs and Services Department, focusing on programs for Financial Assistance, Long-Term Care, Resources and Public Policy. The majority of client contact will be on the phone. This internship is offered in the St. Louis office only.
Social Work Inern
This position will provide direct assistance support to the Financial Assistance and Care Management team. Students will assist with processing applications & helping to determine eligibility for financial assistance, as well as offering guidance and referrals to other available community resources. This internship is offered in the St. Louis office only.
Community Engagement Intern
This position will work with the volunteer community outreach department to provide administrative assistance in one or two of the following areas:

Volunteer Community Outreach Intern
This position will work with the volunteer community outreach department to administer the 1,200 plus volunteers the Chapter utilizes. This intern will assist with the recruitment, screening and administration of the volunteer process. Additional duties include the planning and execution of volunteer recognition programs, writing for the volunteer newsletter and the management of volunteers throughout the event season. This internship is offered in the St. Louis office only.
