PUBLIC RELATIONS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS COORDINATOR
Position Overview
The National MS Society, Gateway Area Chapter seeks an energetic, goal-oriented Public Relations and Community Partnerships Coordinator to become a vital member of the marketing and communications department. This position will be based in St. Louis, MO.
Responsibilities
Media Relations:
- Write and pitch news releases and generate story ideas about the Chapter, its clients, volunteers, and event participants, and advances in medical research, for print, broadcast and electronic media.
- Promote large scale fundraisers to the media, working with the Development Team to pinpoint the most newsworthy opportunities.
- Cultivate and maintain working relationships with appropriate reporters, editors and news directors in the St. Louis and surrounding regions. Seek out and secure new relationships with media outlets throughout 90 county service area.
- Provide media training and talking points to any client, fundraiser, staff member or volunteer who will have a public speaking engagement or interview with the media.
- Invite media to Chapter events and serve as onsite media contact.
- Track mentions of the Chapter in the media.
Community Partnerships:
- Identify opportunities to collaborate with corporations and other community organizations to build awareness of multiple sclerosis and the services offered by the Gateway Area Chapter.
- Develop, manage, maximize and steward community partnerships to support the Society’s fundraising activities, volunteer efforts, programs and services.
- Identify and recruit prospective partners, and develop relationships with stakeholders and partners throughout the community to support the Chapter’s mission.
Writing:
- Write and edit articles for the Chapter magazine, event publications, the annual report, and the web site when necessary/appropriate.
- Assist other departments in the Chapter with writing, editing, and production of printed as well as digital media materials and publications.
- Assist with speech writing, letter writing, and preparation of presentations for Chapter activities.
Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required with 2-4 years work experience.
- Experience in non-profit, special events, or communications preferred.
Candidate must:
- have strong knowledge of regional media outlets;
- possess excellent organizational skills;
- have the ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments;
- have previous experience with media outreach, writing, and relationship-building;
- have strong oral and written communication skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel.
Special consideration given to candidates with experience in the sports of cycling and/or running.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Position Overview
The National MS Society, Gateway Area Chapter seeks a full-time Program Coordinator to join our highly successful organization as a vital member of our team in our St. Louis, MO location.
Responsibilities
Responsible for managing multiple programs in a fast-paced environment with a high level of independence. This position will be directly responsible for coordinating several programs for General Education, and Wellness and Research Education, and Therapeutic Exercise which includes assessing the needs of people living with MS and others impacted by MS. Program Coordination will include marketing programs, arranging support services, providing program materials and tracking progress. Ensure that goals and objectives specified for each program are accomplished in accordance with established priorities, time limitations, funding limitations or other specifications. Develops and facilitates meetings or conferences; coordinates logistics, scheduling and participation.
Qualifications / Experience
- Detail-oriented with strong organization, time management, and follow-up skills.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with database programs.
- Experience with event planning; and managing multiple projects to meet required timelines.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Must have excellent customer service/phone skills and possess stellar interpersonal skills.
- Establishes professional working relationships with a wide variety of vendors, clients and peer groups.
- Bachelor's degree in Social Service/ Health Education and related experience required.
