Early detection is imperative to minimizing the potential effects of multiple sclerosis. It is critical that medical professionals have access to the most recent and accurate research, treatment options and data about MS available.
The Chapter is the primary resource for MS information for professionals. The Chapter’s ultimate goal in educating and partnering with healthcare professionals is to enhance the access and quality of care available to people with MS.
Emerging Therapies Collaborative
The Multiple Sclerosis Emerging Therapies Collaborative has been organized to provide timely, evidence-based resources regarding the known benefits and risks of newly emerging, FDA-approved medications for multiple sclerosis (MS). The Collaborative's goal is to promote optimal, individualized MS treatment by facilitating effective communication and medical decision making for persons affected by MS and health care professionals. This group, which includes the MS Coalition, the American Academy of Neurology, the Multiple Sclerosis VA Centers of Excellence East and West, Can Do MS, Consortium of MS Centers, International Organization of MS Nurses, MS Association of America, MS Foundation, National MS Society, United Spinal Association , Accelerated Cure Project for MS, and the Americas Committee for Treatment and Research in MS will post information and resources for each of the therapies as they gain FDA approval.
Launched in 2011, the Collaborative has as its priority to provide information on MS-specific, (FDA)-approved treatments that have entered the market since 2010. Previously-approved medications will be reviewed in the event of new safety or efficacy data that significantly affect their use in MS treatment.
