Diane Smoyer connected the Mid-Atlantic Chapter to the Asheville cycling community this past year. She serves as the portal for all Asheville information and is always more than willing to facilitate relationships and raise awareness about our events and our mission. We are so thankful for all the connections Diane has helped us make in the Asheville area. |

Lela Minnick contacted the chapter in 2007 to let us know she wanted to do something to raise awareness about MS during MS Awareness Week. Lela decided to read the book “My Grampy Can’t Walk” to students in elementary schools in her area, and in particular, to her daughter’s class. As the volunteer coordinator for the first annual MS Service Day that was offered in Asheville this past October, she did an excellent job assigning volunteers to projects and communicating with the teams. Lela is an incredible volunteer and is committed to creating a world free of MS. |

When we made the decision to move our 2008 Bike MS event to Greenville SC, Pro Bike's owner Marty Galiger and MS Bike Team Captain Mark Vanderwart really stepped up to support our chapter! In fact, Pro Bike was the very first Asheville Bike Team in the history of our Bike Tour! And they were the first bike shop in Asheville to agree to join us at our Bike Event in Greenville to support our cyclists! Pro Bike helped our chapter reach out to the cycling community in Asheville – and because of their efforts we expect even more participants from western NC at the 2009 Bike MS Event in Greenville! |

Wanda Love has been the Community Walk Manager in Hendersonville for over five years. She has made this commitment because of her daughter who has MS. The Hendersonville Community Walk MS raises over $50,000 each year because of Wanda's success in truly engaging the community in this event. She has mobilized people who want to do something about MS NOW. |
