2008 Outstanding Volunteer Award Recipients - Myrtle Beach Area

 Teddy Ronan    Colleen Smith

                Sharon Raymond

Teddy Ronan contacted the MS Society in 2007 to volunteer at a rest stop for the bike ride that was starting and finishing at Broadway at the Beach that year. Teddy had it in her mind that she would just be helping out at a rest stop, but she ultimately agreed to captain a rest stop and was quick to recruit her two sisters, Colleen Smith and Sharon Raymond.. Together they came up with a fun theme for their rest stop where they and the cyclists had a great time. When their rest stop closed each day, they came back to the finish line and continued to share their enthusiasm and support for the cyclists. After the bike ride, Teddy and her sisters were asked to organize an event in Myrtle Beach for people living with MS – the Beat the Winter Blues Caribbean Party. Teddy agreed to help, but was hesitant because she didn’t know who to contact for food and door prize donations. They put on one of the best Beat the Winter Blues parties held in the Chapter.
Diane Walsh Diane Walsh called the Chapter in 2008. She had recently moved to Myrtle Beach from Connecticut and wanted to get involved with the Chapter. The bike ride was over and the Walk had passed, so some time went by before Diane was engaged in a volunteer capacity with the chapter. But during that time, she was persistent – making sure her interest to volunteer was known. In the summer she helped make follow up phone calls to volunteers in the Champions against MS Program. She completed the MS Ambassadors training and spoke at the PT Cruisers Car show in October. In March, she spoke at the Pee Dee Street Rodders car show and was in two separate interviews that aired on a local radio station. Diane has also been helping with pre-event activities for the Myrtle Beach Walk MS.  Diane is making a difference in the Myrtle Beach area.
