The 2012 Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach ride begins with two great start sites Saturday. Three safe, scenic routes will carry you from the rolling hills of the Piedmont to the flat lands of the Pee Dee River. Cyclists from both the Monroe, NC and Kershaw, SC start sites will come together for lunch at Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina. Before leaving, enjoy the beauty of this quiet southern college campus by taking a quick spin through the grounds. Be sure to check out the centerpiece of the college: Davidson Hall.
Head out of Hartsville to begin the final leg of the Saturday ride. You will begin to feel the excitement of your accomplishment when you turn onto the campus of Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina. Take a quick right past the Field of Hope and it's on to the finishing straightaway. Turn the final pedal strokes along the tree-lined street flanked with cheering fans to celebrate your arrival. This will truly be an epic finish that you'll never forget.
When you arrive at Francis Marion, enjoy a fun-filled finish line celebration! Relax with a brew from the Beer Garden - each cyclist age 21 and up (bring your ID) will be allowed up to four beers. Treat yourself to a catered meal - if friends and family want to join you, they may purchase meal ticket wristbands at the information tent for $10 for adults / $5 for children ages 12 and under. Groove to the music, chill under your Team Tent or on the grass, and celebrate being half-way to the beach. Then, catch a free shuttle to your Official Bike MS Partner Hotel or camping location!
