Making It Happen
Mark Wonderly is orginally from Ohio. He moved to Hope Mills, just outside of Fayetteville, three years ago. As an entrepreneur who founded his own web solutions company, Wonderly decided to join the Hope Mills Chamber of Commerce and get more involved with the Society's Fayetteville Walk MS. Membership in the Chamber has allowed him to make many contacts within the Hope Mills business community. It has also placed him in a great position to increase awareness in the businesses community about the MS movement and encourage Chamber members to get involved.
For the past two years he has helped the Chamber to form a team for the Fayetteville Walk.“It is a great way to get local businesses involved in the walk and spread awareness” says Wonderly.
The Chamber also hosts a luncheon the second Monday of every month. Wonderly takes the opportunity to get up and speak before the group on the latest MS related events, avenues for involvement and leaves the audience with a call to action. He networks and fundraises at other like-minded events like the WKML hosted Big Heart Bash that raises money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Wonderly sells drinks and refreshments at the concert, donated by area businesses. His proceeds are either donated to the Society or go toward his fundraising efforts for the Fayetteville Walk.
Wonderly’s fundraising goal for the 2009 Fayetteville Walk was to raise $1,500 by May 18th. As of Saturday, April 4th, his team has raised $1,067. The National MS Society recognized his team with the “Making it Happen,” award. It was awarded to Wonderly’s team for setting such a lofty goal, recruiting team members, pledges and doing everything necessary to bring it to fruition.
