Should I have a neuropsychological evaluation?

Question:
I have MS. Should I have a neuropsychological evaluation?

Expert Answer:
There are a number of reasons to consider having a neuropsychological evaluation when you have MS. About half of all people with MS will have cognitive problems. The results of a neuropsychological evaluation, which will show your individual strengths and weaknesses, will likely help you better understand the impact of MS on your daily functioning. Many people find that neuropsychological evaluation results help them to plan around performance problems at work and home. The results can help people who are struggling at work  as a result of the problems associated with MS compensate better and work more effectively. Neuropsychological evaluation results can also be helpful in decision making when someone is thinking about applying for disability.
