Multiple sclerosis was listed recently in the web book “Contaminated Water Supplies at Camp Lejeune: Assessing Potential Health effects" as one of several illnesses possibly linked to contaminated water but where inadequate or insufficient evidence exists. Currently more than 20,000 veterans with MS are receiving care through the Veterans Health Administration and over 400,000 people are living with MS in the United States.
If you are living with MS and were stationed or worked at Camp Lejeune, NC between 1957 and 1987, you might have been exposed to contaminated drinking water and it is important that you contact and register with the US Navy while research is ongoing.
If you are a veteran, the Veterans Administration has established a disability claims center to research and handle all claims related to the contaminated water supplies. Veterans filing claims for service-connected disability must show that their exposure to the contaminated water is the cause for their disability.
The Marine Corps encourages all those who lived or worked at Camp Lejeune before 1987 to register to receive notifications regarding Camp Lejeune Historic Drinking Water. Click here to register.
If you feel like your MS diagnosis or another disease is related to your exposure to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, information on how to file a Camp Lejeune claim can be found here.
