NJ Metro Chapter Presents 24th Annual Walk Multiple Sclerosis Fundraiser
New Jersey – Lace up your sneakers and get ready to help the over 13,000 New Jersey residents living with multiple sclerosis (MS). Whether you walk for fun or fitness you can make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease. MS interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and can stop people from moving. For some, this means living with unpredictable symptoms that can come and go, like numbness and blurred vision. For others, there is more permanent damage, like paralysis. For everyone impacted by MS, it means not knowing what the day will bring and always being prepared for the unexpected, making it difficult to move forward in life.
Walk MS kicks off in New Jersey on Sunday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at a variety of walk sites throughout the state, and is one of New Jersey’s largest and most widespread organized walks. Walk MS connects people living with the disease and those who care about them in an experience unlike any other - a day to come together, to celebrate the progress we’ve made, and to show the power of our connections.
Much progress has been made in the area of MS research - from a wider variety of treatment options to slow down the progression of the disease to new programs available for MS patients to manage symptoms and everyday living. The availability of MS housing and MS Centers dedicated to the disease right here in New Jersey is now a reality, however there is still no cure for MS. Events like Walk MS, through which individuals and groups work together to make a difference, are what makes finding a cure a possibility.
Participants are welcome to register individually, join or create a team or volunteer at any of the Chapter’s Walk MS sites including: Belmar/Lake Como, Clark, Flemington, Freehold, Hamilton, Jersey City, Lakewood, Lincroft, North Brunswick, Ridgefield Park, Roseland, or Roxbury. All routes feature beautiful scenery and promise an inspiring day where those affected by MS can connect. All funds raised from the event will support critical MS research programs and fund local programs and services for all those who are impacted by the disease.
People of all ages are welcome to register online at http://walknjm.nationalmssociety.org or at 9 a.m. on the day of the event. All routes are fully accessible and are approximately 4 miles in length. For more information about Walk MS please contact the New Jersey Metro Chapter at 1 800 344 4867 or visit http://walknjm.nationalmssociety.org.
