The Women on the Move and On the Move Luncheons are unique fundraising experiences that create an inspiring, motivational and empowering environment. These events create a social environment for likeminded people to gather, learn about multiple sclerosis, and raise funds to help end MS. The luncheons often feature celebrity speakers, which have included Teri Garr, Rain Pryor, Jacquelyn Mitchard, and Zoe Koplowitz.
While the event was founded by women who wanted to come together in bringing us closer to a world free of MS, we also invite and encourage men to attend and participate. Two thirds of people living with MS are women, and women often are care providers. The MS Women on the Move and On the Move Luncheons create an opportunity to empower each other to create a better future for those living with MS. We also recognize the importance of male caregivers and supporters to the women in their lives.
The New Jersey Metro Chapter will host the On the Move Luncheon at the Berkely in Asbury Park in September and the Women on the Move Luncheon at Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park in November. The events are designed to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis and to raise much needed funds for local programs and services, as well as accelerate the national research effort.
Exciting breakthroughs are happening in the area of research, and there is a consensus that we are getting closer to unlocking the mystery of MS. Additional funds are urgently needed to continue this vital work. Approximately 400,000 Americans acknowledge having MS and every week about 200 people are diagnosed. Multiple Sclerosis is typically diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, often during the prime years of one’s life. More and more teenagers and even children are now known to have multiple sclerosis. Two to three times as many women as men have MS.
In the Greater New Jersey area, 75% of the 10,000 people with MS serviced by the Chapter are women. A primary goal of the luncheon is to reach out to active business professionals and community leaders to educate and motivate them to make MS one of the charities they support on an on-going basis.
The Women on the Move and On the Move Luncheons offer a unique and targeted avenue to reach a group of well-connected professionals and community leaders. It provides a way for individuals and corporations to be involved in a nationally branded, highly visible campaign, while allowing clients and employees an opportunity for social interaction and networking.
Chris Wragge, anchor on CBS 2 News, is the luncheon ambassador and will be our special guest and host of both events. For more information on Chris, please click here.
