Children and MS

MS is a chronic illness that affects the entire family.   The National MS Society recognizes that children who grow up in a home where there is a diagnosis of MS have many questions. Click on this link to view the collection of literature designed especially for children and teens:  http://www.nationalmssociety.org/multimedia-library/brochures/for-children--teenagers/index.aspx.

Children and families should be focused on fun!  The Chapter offers these unique social programs throughout the year. These social events provide opportunities for people who share the common experience of having MS to meet and greet in fun and accessible environments!  Participants often learn from each other about the variety of issues they all face while managing their busy lives with a diagnosis of MS in the family. For additional information about any of these programs, contact the Chapter at 800-344-4867 or generalmailbox@nmss.org.   Click on our Program Calendar to see the month by month schedule of activities.

Kids Camp

The NJ Metro Chapter realizes the unique situation of children who have parents that are diagnosed with MS. Kids Camp is designed especially for them!  It is an MS free weekend for children who are often forced to grow up too soon by taking on many responsibilities when a family member has a chronic illness. The weekend is open to children (ages 7-15) of a parent or guardian who has multiple sclerosis; the children connect with one another in a supportive, fun-filled environment.   It is a weekend for fun and sharing at a fully staffed recreational campground in Pennsylvania.

Fun Days

Every June the Chapter kicks off the summer with fun at the Monmouth County Racetrack!  This fun event at the racetrack brings families and friends together while enjoying the festive grounds of the Racetrack. View the website often to be sure that you are aware of the details as they unfold for 2012!
