Job Readiness – a program for clients who are looking for employment and who qualify under the grant guidelines – You can still register for the classes that are most interesting and appropriate to you!
What: The program will consist of 9 sessions during the months of April and May and will include workshops on: Interest Testing, Development
of Transferable Skills, Knowing Your Rights, Developing a Job search Plan, Resume Clinics, Interview Clinics, and a Mock Interview Day. You do not have to be present at every workshop – you can choose among them.

- Café Con Leche - The National MS Society offers a monthly telephone group, totally in Spanish. We invite Hispanics/Latinos with MS to participate with us from the comfort of their home or office phone. The monthly calls will be free. The Cognitive Wellness program focuses on creating a greater awareness and understanding of the many changes that individuals with MS might experience and empowering persons to effectively increase quality of living through education, support and experiential activities. A dedicated team of specialists effectively integrates evidence-based cognitive and psychological treatment with complementary wellness-based practices.
New programs are now being planned for the Spring – beginning in May! The Living with MS Series and Wellness Seminars will run for ten consecutive Wednesdays from 10AM -3PM at Kessler’s West Orange campus. A continental breakfast and lunch are included.

Nutrition Consultations
The MS Comprehensive Care Center at The Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center is pleased to announce that they have received a grant from the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation to offer 90-minute nutritional consultations for patients with MS. This grant provides patients with a complimentary nutritional consultation for those who would be otherwise unable to afford this service. MS Wellness at CentraState
The MS Wellness Program at the Linda E Cardinale MS Center at CentraState Medical Center is designed to optimize the quality of life for those living with the challenges of MS. The next series of classes begins in May. There are also a variety of ‘graduate’ classes (for anyone that has completed the 12 week wellness class):
· Stretching and Balance Class – Wednesdays from 12:30-1:30pm
· Tai-Chi - Thursdays from 1 pm- 2pm
· Stretching and Balance Class (advanced) - 2 pm- 3pm
· Aquatic classes run for six consecutive Tuesdays. Registration is required. The fee for the six classes is $20.00
· Adult Scuba classes will soon be announced.

Training and Employment Opportunity for People with Disabilities
Become a Records Management/ Document Imaging Specialist with Hudson Community Enterprises Metro Scanning
Metro Scanning is a social enterprise business operated by HCE. This integrated business offersexpanded employment options for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment in a fullyfunctioning document scanning business. The business provides work opportunities for a broad range ofindividuals with disabilities through multiple operational tasks.
Metro Scanning offers a 9-week on the job training course for document imaging, with a shorter alternateroute for more experienced individuals. Students that complete the training are then employed as Records Management Specialists. During the 9-week period, students will gain experience and skills necessary to work within Metro Scanning. Upon completion of training, individuals will then be offered the opportunity to become full-time employees of the social enterprises and could then be eligible to receive benefits after the 90 day probationary period is completed.

Housing in Park Ridge
The Housing Authority of Bergen County (HABC) is accepting applications for Lehmann Gardens in Park Ridge. Lehman Gardens is an affordable garden apartment complex with one and two bedroom units, specifically designed for people who use wheelchairs. Although there are currently no available apartments, applications are now accepted for the waiting list. The income limits are:
· 1 person family - $33,150/year
· 2 person family -$37,850/year.

Register Ready – New Jersey’s Special Needs Registry for Disasters - New Jersey's Special Needs Registry for Disasters, a free, voluntary and confidential program designed to assist people with special needs who may find it difficult to get to safety in the event of an emergency. People with special needs (or caregivers on their behalf) are encouraged to register through www.registerready.nj.gov. Alternatively, they can call New Jersey’s toll-free 2-1-1 telephone service. This service will register people, offer free translation, and provide TTY services for the hearing-impaired.

A Clinical Research Trial for MS Spasticity- Does it feel like spasticity is controlling you?
The Command Clinical Research Trial is currently evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational oral medication that is similar to a currently approved medication, baclofen. The study medication is being evaluated to determine whether it is effective at treating spasticity with twice-daily dosing.
If you have spasticity due to MS, you may be eligible for the Command clinical Research Trial.
Participants will (at no cost):
· Study-related exams and evaluations with an MS Specialist
· Laboratory testing
· Study Medication

Orchestra-Opera- The sound of a new research opportunity in multiple sclerosis
If you have been diagnosed with a relapsing form of multiple sclerosis, you could help with a clinical research study looking at whether an investigational drug can reduce the number of relapsed you experience.
What are the Opera studies?
Orchestra is a clinical research program, which comprises three studies. The Opera I & II Studies are for patients with relapsing MS. The third study is for patients with progressive MS. The aim of the Opera I & II are for patients with progressive MS. The aim of Opera I & II Studies is to find out whether patients treated with ocrelizumab experience fewer relapses compared with patients who receive a treatment that is already approved for MS, called Rebif.
Can I take part in an Opera Study?
You may be able to take part in an Opera Study if you:
· Are 18-55 years of age
· Have been diagnosed with a relapsing form of MS
· Have experienced at least two documented relapses within the past 2 years, or one within the past year.

Kessler is Looking for Research Participants
Kessler Foundation Research Center is recruiting persons with multiple sclerosis aged 30 to 45 for a study investigating physical exercise as an innovative, non-pharmacological treatment of memory problems. All participants will be compensated for their time. Participants will complete paper-and-pencil tasks, receive MRI scans of their brain, and complete a 12-week exercise program. This study does not involve medications. The Principal Investigators are Drs. James Sumowski and Victoria Leavitt. The study takes place at Kessler Institute, 1199 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange, NJ. Employment Study for Individuals Living With MS
Investigators at Seton Hall University are conducting a research study investigating the emotional and physical factors that may have an impact on an individual’s employment status, following a diagnosis of MS. They are recruiting US citizens between the ages of 25-50 who are diagnosed with MS, were engaged in paid employment at the time of MS diagnosis and are currently experience a relapsing-remitting course of MS. The study will require a maximum time commitment of 30 minutes from each participant. Participants will complete a demographic questionnaire and the following assessments: the Revised Stress Related Growth Scale, the Multiple Sclerosis Self-Efficacy Scale, the Career Self-Efficacy Scale and the American version of Guy’s Neurological Disability Scale. Participation in this study is completely voluntary and individuals may withdraw from the study without any penalty, at any time. Researchers at University at Albany, SUNY are recruiting people being treated for MS for a study to learn more about doctor-patient relationships and experiences adjusting to Multiple Sclerosis. Participants can complete the anonymous and confidential questionnaire, entirely from home. Participation should only take about 45 minutes. Participants are eligible for a prize-drawing to receive compensation. The answers may ultimately help to improve the quality of the medical care that people with Multiple Sclerosis receive.

Kiss MS Goodbye
Kiss MS Goodbye and Keep MS Awareness Alive All Year! The NJ Metro Chapter has kicked off a new and exciting campaign to help move us closer to a world free of MS. The chapter will offer exclusive lipstick and lip gloss in beautiful tones of their energizing signature MS ORANGE. Lip Toxyl Rouge Lipstick in Coral Charm and Liquid Luster Lip Gloss in Tempest made their debut during MS Awareness Week 2012 and are still available exclusively from the New Jersey Metro Chapter. The Coral Charm lipstick sells for $21.00 and the Tempest lip gloss sells for $20.00. Proceeds from the sale of these products will go to fund critical programs and services run by the Chapter to aid all those affected by MS living locally.
