New Jersey Metro Chapter

Scholarship Fund

The New Jersey Metro Chapter Scholarship program is made possible by the generous donations from our supporters and volunteers. In 2011 the New Jersey Metro Chapter awarded over $55,800 to deserving scholars across New Jersey. To obtain an 2013 Chapter Scholarship application, please click here.

The program began in 1994 by volunteer and Chapter Board of Trustee member Meryl Ravitz. The program grew steadily through the years, assisting a number of families with their college costs. During his tenure as Chapter President (2005-2008), Frank Lesher continued to build on the work of Meryl by motivating others to contribute to the Scholarship Program. Due to their collaborative efforts, the contributions to the program received an additional $45,000 in those years. The MS Spring Golf Classic Chairmen Mike Lotito and John Miles have restricted $25,000 of the event to Scholarship and Children’s Programs. The committee has made a commitment to support the Scholarship and Children’s programs in an effort to make sure that families who are affected by MS have financial resources as well as the educational and emotional support provided by the Chapter.

Our Driving Forces

Meryl Ravitz

Growing up with a parent with MS, Meryl experienced firsthand all of the struggles associated with the disease. She started the chapter’s scholarship fund in her father’s memory to recognize his commitment to education as well as his commitment to MS. Over the years the MS Scholarship Program has grown and Meryl has made it her passion. She works tirelessly each year to see that all those who would like to further their education have the opportunity to do so. Ms Ravitz is also the team captain of the “For My Dad” Walk Team, which in the past 10 years has raised approximately $50,000, and has also received walk sponsorship support from her employer, Vivaro Corporation during that period. Joe and Denise Revello

Over the past several years Board of Trustee member, Joe Revello has taken a very active role in fundraising for the Chapter’s Scholarship program.  Joe was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1995 and since then he has taken the lead in raising money for many of the New Jersey Metro Chapter’s programs and services. Joe is a top Walk MS fundraiser and walks with Team BRADCO, one of the chapter’s top teams. Recently Joe and his wife Denise made the chapter’s scholarship program a priority for their fundraising efforts. Joe and Denise recognize the struggles of families who are coping with the financial impact of MS and believe that MS shouldn’t stand in the way of an education.
