Your Time and Talent Can Make a Difference!
If you have the desire to get involved and be part of making a positive difference, consider volunteering with the New Mexico Office of the National MS Society. The Chapter has a wide variety of flexible opportunities, both short term and ongoing. Consider using your skills to:
- Organize or promote a fund-raising event
- Advocate on behalf of those with MS
- Assist with office duties at one of our 15 locations.
- Become a contributing volunteer writer for MSConnection. Learn More.
- The Client Relations Specialist will serve as an early point of contact for people newly diagnosed with MS, welcoming them to the National MS Society and helping to determine their needs.
If you prefer direct support in the community, become a friendly visitor or lend a helping hand to someone who is living with MS.
Volunteers are a driving force of the movement to cure MS. Join the movement today and use your gifts of time and talent to enhance the lives of those living with MS. Contact the local office to volunteer for program, services, or to learn more about becoming an Ambassador.
Many Events, Many Choices
It takes many volunteers just like you to put on our events. Some require a handful of volunteers for a couple hours, while others require hundreds of volunteers, and others requiring volunteers willing to work months leading up to and after an event. Some require outdoor labor while others are indoor assignments. Events are truly a great way to Join the Movement that can easily fit your personal needs and preferences. Best of all, volunteering is great for individuals, families, and corporate groups.
Walk MS – Volunteer to keep us moving forward at our Walk MS events in the Spring.
Bike MS – Volunteer to support hundreds of cyclists pedaling for a cure for MS.
Programs and services volunteer
Helping Hands and Compassionate Voices
Programs and services volunteers are our helping hands and compassionate voices for people with MS in our local community. Check out ways you can get involved as a programs volunteer:
- Self-Help Group Leader - lead a group of people with MS in community activities
- Advocacy Volunteer - be a voice in the political arena
- Client Companions - be a listening ear and helping hand
- MS Champion - connect with event participants.
General Office Volunteer – There are always tasks around the office that staff members need help with, such as phone calls to sponsors, filing, or inventorying t-shirts. General office volunteers sign on to be a “jack of all trades” in the office. This position can be a scheduled weekly position or on an as needed basis.
Ambassadors
If you enjoy speaking to groups and organizations, consider becoming and MS speaker’s bureau volunteer. Volunteer speakers, most who have MS, are available to speak to community groups, schools, employers, police & fire departments, health care providers, and other interested organizations. Speeches given through the National MS Society’s Speakers’ Bureau should include information about:
- Personal experience or connection with MS
- Basic facts about MS
- Information about the work of the National MS Society
- How the audience can get involved in the fight against MS
Length of talks and specific topics requested vary depending on the organization. Other topics may include research, treatments and disease management, and volunteer opportunities.
As a speaker, you may also be asked to represent the National MS Society at health/community/employee fairs or special events, give presentations to teams, and speak at National MS Society fund raising events or ceremonies.
