Wearing Orange in Honor of MS Awareness Week

Lisa Z
At their monthly-guided meditation, participants wore orange in support of MS Awareness. Pictured are Top row left to right: Judy Rich; Anthea Samuels; Laurie Ahlemann (owner of Long Island School & Prana Shakti Yoga); Danielle Fortier-Lynaugh; Steve Booke; Eric Galgan; Marty Raedensky; Carol Shepherd; Christina Izzo; Lisa Zeankowski; Bottom Row from left to right:  David Strump; Nanette Strump; Jessica Pearce; Bryan Glick; Shanna Siegel; Fatma Koksu ; Center Bottom: Lakshmi our Goddess of Abundance offering an abundance of good health

During its monthly-guided meditation, Prana Shakti Yoga recognized MS Awareness Week (March 2-8) and the National MS Society’s effort to move it toward a world free of multiple sclerosis.

To increase awareness, Laurie Ahlemann, who owns and runs Prana Shakti Yoga and the Long Island Yoga School out of Absolute Yoga in Woodbury, along with Absolute Yoga’s owner Leslie Luft put up signs and handed out MS informational pamphlets. The result led to Absolute Yoga donating community class donations for the months of March through May to the Catherine Caldarella Memorial Fund Home Health Aide Assistance Program, which was created last year by Hicksville resident Lisa Zeankowski with the help of Ahlemann during their Healing and Moving for a Cure fundraiser.

Ahlemann also took MS Awareness week another step further and, on March 6, during the regular monthly guided meditation at Prana Shakti Yoga, everyone was asked to show support by wearing the color orange, the National MS Society’s color of hope. Everyone received an information booklet as well as a gift, the MS Hope Band, in orange of course.

The hope is that, after an entire week of increased awareness, more Long Islanders who may not have known what Multiple Sclerosis was will now thanks to Ahlemann’s support and willingness to help the cause.
