Nationwide Resources

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), is a community service and work-based training program for older workers. It was authorized by congress in Title V of the Older Americans Act of 1965 to provide subsidized, part-time, community service, work-based training for low-income persons aged 55 or older who have limited to no employment prospects.
Participants in the program work an average of 20 hours a week, and earn minimum wage. They are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities, including day-care centers, senior centers, schools and hospitals. AARP Foundation (50 plus) WorkSearch Program , encourages employers to hire seniors through a no-cost to employer option. Employers are matched with qualified seniors, WorkSearch then pays the employees’ wages and workers compensation for two to four weeks during the training period. The Senior Job Bank, provides a job search engine specific to the older worker demographic. Senior Job Bank allows the user to search for jobs from occasional and part-time, to full-time employment in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

The National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NSUAD), is a national association of governmental agencies devoted to older persons. The NASUAD website provides information that affects the quality of life of older persons and includes information about health, federal and state legislation, employment opportunities, and care services. This network of agencies promotes and defends the rights of older workers and supports their continued contribution to the community.

The National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, Incorporated focuses on the quality of life of older African American adults. Its website provides information and services regarding health, finance, Social Security, and employment. The NCBA's Senior Employment Program is associated with the U.S. Department of Labor's SCSEP and the SEE Program to provide meaningful community-based work for older African American adults.

The National Council on the Aging (NCOA), is a network of organizations that focuses on improving the quality of life of older adults. The NCOA provides leadership and training to assist older workers in developing new skills and is closely linked to programs such as Maturity Works, and SCSEP to place older workers in jobs of interest and personal meaning. The NCOA Web site also provides training materials and specific topic links related to issues concerning older workers.

Too Young to Retire is an online service that provides activity ideas to individuals who desire to remain active during their retirement years. This website offers useful information and links to newsletters, publications, and true stories that help older Americans manage their retirement lifestyle as well as occupational decisions.

BoomerCareer is a career publication that targets working professionals of the baby boom (1946-1964) generation. BoomerCareer.com provides a variety of informative articles on issues revolving around the career development of the baby boomer population as well as free résumé posting and a job search engine.

Experience Works, previously known as Green Thumb, is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to training and providing employment services for older workers. Programs offered by Experience Works are designed to provide older workers with training and knowledge to continue in personalized career paths.

Forty Plus, with chapters across the US, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to professionals in career transition. This organization provides training, peer support, networking opportunities, and seminars with expert speakers designed to assist middle-aged to senior professionals with successful career-transition decision making.

Workforce50,arms the older workforce with employment resources and career information to achieve their goals and help them to make the most of their talents.

Seniors4Hire, is a nationwide online career center for businesses that value a diverse workforce to actively recruit folks in the U.S. 50 and older, including retirees and senior citizens looking for a job and/or other ways to earn money. Membership is free for job seekers 50 and older.

You’ll also find information on government programs and other valuable resources that are tailored just for mature members.

WiserWorker, provides employment opportunities and resources to seniors. Opportunities can be found for both hourly and salaried positions. New York City and State Resources

Senior Community Services Employment Program - Westchester
SCSEP is an active partner in the Westchester/Putnam One Stop Employment Center. Seniors may arrange to meet a SCSEP Peer Counselor by appointment. For more information and eligibility guidelines speak to a SCSEP Peer Counselor at the Urban League of Westchester at (914) 428-5850.

55 Plus Yonkers Connections, in collaboration with the AARP Foundation WorkSearch and The Volunteer Center, Westchester Community College and Family Services of Westchester, opened in June of 2009. It is a job assessment center for mature adults in the Cross County Shopping Center in Yonkers.

Easter Seals Job Training and Employment Services at SCSEP
Easter Seals New York provides assistance to out of work mature workers through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). The Senior Community Service Employment Program is a community service and work based training program for older workers which provides subsidized, part-time, community service work based training for low-income persons age 55 or older who have poor employment prospects.
Participants work an average of 20 hours a week, and earn minimum wage. They are placed in a wide variety of community service activities at non-profit and public facilities, including day-care centers, senior centers, schools and hospitals.
In order to participate in Easter Seals SCSEP you must be unemployed, 55 and older, have income at or below the 125% Federal Poverty line and be ready and willing to work. To contact SCSEP, please call (212) 943-4364.

ReServe ( Reserve ), is a NYC  nonprofit organization which services older adults by connecting them with stipend paying jobs that challenge them to use their lifetime skills for the public good. Clients work part-time and are paid a stipend of $10 per hour.

The New York City Department for the Aging offers short-term trainings that can help get your skills up to speed for work in a variety of fields. All of DFTA's trainings run from 8 to 10 weeks, and afterwards they will help you find a job in your field.
For work in an office, the Age Works Computer Training Center will teach you how to use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and prepare you for work in data entry and office assistance.
For work in the customer service field, the Food Emporium and Riese Restaurant Training Center will give you the basics in computer skills and customer service etiquette that can help you in your career in everything from banking to retail.
For work in a nonprofit or government agency, the Senior Community Service Employment Program will place you at one of over 300 sites for on-site training.Computer Training for Older Adults

OATS -Older Adults Technology Services provides basic computer training in different locations around New York City. In addition to basic computing other training topics include; researching health information online, accessing city services, workforce skills, staying safe online, and civic engagement.
