2012 Honoree:
The Plain Dealer was honored at the Cleveland Dinner of Champions on November 14, 2012. The Plain Dealer received the Norman Cohn Hope Award, the most prestigious award given by the National MS Society. An honoree exhibits vision and commitment to leadership, philanthropy, community involvement and service. Terry Egger, Shirley Stineman, Andrea Hogben, Debra Adams Simmons and others accepted the award on behalf of The Plain Dealer.
The Plain Dealer is more than Ohio’s largest newspaper. It is an institution that truly cares about the community and the people it serves.
The Plain Dealer and Plain Dealer Charities support hundreds of education, arts, health and civic organizations each year. Employees get involved in the community and generously give their time, talent and resources to help causes and people in our area.
The Plain Dealer’s executives are personally involved in leadership roles with many area charitable organizations, including United Way, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Great Lakes Science Center, the Cleveland Foodbank, the Musical Arts Association, the Cleveland Museum of Art and BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence. The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com have been long-term supporters of the National MS Society and its events, including the Dinner of Champions and Bike MS: Pedal to the Point.
Proceeds from Dinners of Champions have totaled more than $6 million and are used to provide programs and services to the 11,000 people with MS and their families in the Ohio Buckeye Chapter. Proceeds also fund the most promising research nationally and beyond to stop disease progression, restore lost function and end MS forever.
