Team Rules and Regulations

  • There are two divisions - men's and co-ed. Prizes will be awarded to the first place team of each division.
  • Each team will play a series of games in pool play. The team's record during pool play will determine its seeding for the tournament. The tournament will follow a single elimination format.
  • Each team must have a minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 5 players. Changes and/or additions to a team's roster must be made by 8:00 a.m. on May 19 and players may appear on only one team roster.
  • Teams entering the co-ed division can have any combination of 5 players, but 1 girl must be on the court at all times.
  • All players must be 16 years of age or older.
  • All participants must sign the waiver and players under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver.
  • Registration fees are non-refundable.
  • Please note: that inappropriate language or behavior toward players, volunteers, spectators, or MS Society staff will not be tolerated. The event staff reserves the right to disqualify any participant and/or team exhibiting such behavior and no refunds will be awarded.

Game Rules and Regulations

  • Each game will be supervised by Court Marshalls. The Court Marshalls are volunteers of the National MS Society. They are on hand to serve as line judges, calling out of bounds and 3 point shots, and to keep score and keep track of jump ball possessions. Please treat them with respect and understand that they may not be basketball experts. If a dispute arises that cannot be resolved, a staff member of the National MS Society will step in.
  • The game will be broken down into two (2) 10 minute halves with a running clock and a 2 minute halftime period. The clock will stop for dead balls during the last 2 minutes of the second half and for timeouts. The team with the most points at the end of regulation will win. There is no scoring rule. If the game is tied at the end of regulation, a 3 minute overtime period will take place. The clock will stop on all dead balls during overtime.
  • A coin flip before the start of the game will determine who gets the ball first. The opposing team will get the ball at the start of the second half.
  • The ball will change possession after each score basket (no make it take it).
  • A ball out of bounds will be taken at the top of the court behind the 3 point line.
  • The ball must be "taken back" behind the top of the 3 point line and "checked" with the defense on every change of possession. Both feet and the ball must be taken behind this line.
  • Teams will call their own fouls. Should a problem arise, the Court Marshals and Society event staff have the final say.
    • Shooting Fouls
      • If the basket is missed, team gets 1 point and the player fouled gets 1 free throw shot.
      • If the basket is made, team gets points for the basket and the player fouled gets1 free throw shot.
    • Non-Shooting Fouls will be taken up top behind the 3 point line and played like a ball out of bounds.
    • The Court Marshals at the score table will keep track of team fousl.Once a team has 7 team fouls, a one and one free throw shot will replace taking the ball back. The total number of team fouls is reset to 0 at the start of each half. The Court Marshals do not keep track of individual player fouls.
  • Each team receives one (1) 30 second timeout per half. Timeouts do not carry over.
