Self-Help Groups

Self-Help Group Leaders: We recognize the valuable role self-help groups play in addressing the informational, emotional and social support needs of our members. We also recognize that well trained and supported self-help group leaders are key to the ongoing delivery of this core service.

Here are resources available to assist and support you in your leadership role.

Self-Help Groups bring people together who share a common life experience (living with MS) for support, education and mutual aid. Members share a belief that positive personal change can happen through individual effort with the support of others. Please read each description as focus varies from group to group. Whatever your interest, the Ohio Buckeye Chapter has a group for you!

The following is a list of Self-Help Groups by county. Please be sure to check with the contact name to confirm dates and times of their monthly meetings or contact the National MS Society at 800-344-4867.

     

Ashtabula County

Ashtabula Icons
Meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at the KSU Campus, Blue-Gold Room, 3325 W. 13th Street. Call Marge at (440) 415-1092 or Phyllis at (440) 466-9943. Please note there are no meetings August - December.

Carroll County

Carroll County Group
Will be meeting at Ponderosa in Carrollton in May and June at 6:30 p.m. Call Lois at (330) 484-5382 to verify meeting time and date as they are subject to change.   

Cuyahoga County

Brunch Bunch
Meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at Denny's located at 4331 W. 150th St., Cleveland. Call Eric at (440) 826-3742.

But You Look So Good - Eastside Self-Help Group
Meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Shaker Heights Library, 16500 Van Aken Blvd., Shaker Heights. Call Teresa at (216) 408-7855.  

Eastside Newly Diagnosed/Minimally Affected
Meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 23599 Cedar Road, Lyndhurst, at 7:00 p.m. Call Charlene at (440) 349-3936 or Lynn at (216) 382-5955.

Northwest Satellites
Meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the North Olmsted Senior Center (adjacent to the Community Cabin), 28114 Lorain Road. Call Marge or Burt at (440) 777-4156.

Parma Posse of Possibilities
Meets the last Friday of the month at noon. Please bring a brown bag lunch to Ridgewood YMCA, 6840 Ridge Rd., Parma, OH 44129. Call Pam at (440) 888-1469.

Strongsville
Meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Recreation & Senior Center (enter through the Senior Complex), 18100 Royalton Road (Rt. 82), Strongsville at 7:00 p.m. Call Debbie at (440) 829-5665.

Delaware County

Delaware Mighty Souls
Meets 1st Thursday of the month from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Willow Brook At Delaware Run (Behind Pavillion in Main Administration) at 100 Delaware Crossing W, Delaware, Ohio 43015. Call Thom at (740) 815-5809 or Ron at (740) 815-3837 for details.
 

Fairfield County

Lancaster Movers and Shakers
Meets 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Fairfield Center for Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy, 681 East 6th Ave, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Call Ed at (740) 653-5501 or Maria (740) 243-4368. Please note there are no meetings June - August.  

Franklin County

Columbus Eastside Group

Holmes County

Wooster Group

Knox County

Knox County MS Support Group
Meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at Emeritus at HillenVale, 1615 Yauger Road, Mt. Vernon. Email Sharon or call her at (740) 392-3156. Please note there are no meetings November 1 - March 1.

Lake County

Mentor's Best
Meets at Sabby's Bagel Cafe, 7265 Center St. at 11:30 a.m. Call Kathy at (440) 254-4050 for meeting dates.

Mahoning County

MS Musketeers
Meets on the 2nd Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for a structured MS related activity and the 4th Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for an open discussion meeting at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown. Call Dawn at (330) 782-1845.

Medina County

Medina Evening Group
Meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Medina County Office for Older Adults, 246 Northland Drive. Call Janel at (330) 273-4707.

Morgan County

McConnelsville Group
Meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Reicker building, 155 E. Main St. Call Susan or Gary at 749-962-6686.

Portage Family & Friends

Portage County Group
Normally meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Room 25 at Robinson Memorial Hospital at 6847 N. Chestnut St. in Ravenna. Call Joyce at (330) 325-0458 to confirm meeting times.

Stark County

“But You Look So Good”
A group for persons with hidden disabilities. The group meets at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Thursday of each month at Village Hall, 202 West Maple St., Hartville, 44632. Call Ray at (330) 877-3088.

Massillon Social Group
Meets at 10:00 a.m. on the 2nd Monday of each month at area restaurant for brunch. Please call Cindy at (330) 833-2240 for meeting location.

Summit County

Mighty Oaks
Meets from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on the 1st Saturday of each month at the Green YMCA. Call Micheala at (330) 861-5252

Akron Evening Group
Meets at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Neurosurgery and Neurology Associates in Akron. Call Pam at (330) 572-1011, ext. 137.

Trumbull County
