A DYI Fundraising Event is your idea, your passion or spark that motivates you to design a program that will reach out to your community on behalf of our mission to achieve a world free of MS. Our DIY page extends a “heartfelt thank you” to the following groups who have come forward in support of our mission to end MS.


The 17th Annual “Mick Myers Golf Outing” was held at Mill Race Golf Course in Benton, PA and raised $10,000 for MS. Heartfelt thank you to Mick Myers and the Golf Committee for their hard work and long standing commitment, making the tournament a success! The Golf Committee members are Pauline Freezer-Barber, Cindie Corson, Drue Magee, Tim Kepner, Jeff Waltman, Stephanie Budman, Troy & Ellen Detweiler.   Tournament winners for the Championship Flight were Robert Hager, Jason Phillips, Mark Hoffman & John Smay. Second Flight winners: Dayl McClintock, Matt McClintock & Brian McClintock Pokey Sprout. To date, this event has raised over $180,000.00 for research programs into the cause and cure for MS.

And speaking of rock-n-roll, Jay MeGonnell brought the boys back for an encore!   Jay & the Jingos celebrated 30 years in music, and played to a packed house at the Cross Roads Café in Grantville, raising $3,200.00 for MS.

Collectors Fest, Sports and Memorabilia Auction, held at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, raised $1,186.00 for MS. Special thank you to our northeast self help group members who lent volunteer support!

The 25th Annual York Annual All-Star Volleyball Showcase has made an amazing commitment to MS.   In November 2010, the showcase raised $1,866.37, with their 25 years of fundraising over $30,000.00.

Sally Wilson was on the slopes again for some “extreme” fundraising and awareness for MS. She raises the bar each year and challenges herself to 30 days of skiing for MS. Ski Roundtop provides the slopes and her boys (her greyhounds) keep her enthusiasm up. Breaking her 2010 total ($2,780), she finished her 30 days of skiing raising $3,050.00.

Commonwealth Connections Academyincluded fundraising for MS as part of their family outreach program. Partnering with Pizza Hut, families were invited to dine on select nights, with portions of the proceeds donated to MS. This cyber outreach raised $218.34.

The Agrarian Country’s Fishing Creek Playhouse and Dinner Theater selected the Society to be a recipient of the Playhouse Cares Charitable Program. Tips received during performances of Beehive -The 60’s Musical Sensation, March 4 through April 9, were donated to MS, totaling $304.00.

 The 2011 Hershey Bears Annual Jersey Auction raised $17,000 for MS.  With a partnership beginning in 1999, the Hershey Bears have raised over $300,000 for our Chapter mission.

“A Run Through the Park / Charity Half-Marathon for MS” was held at Cowans Gap State Park. Calvin Cline’s Senior Project raised $45.00 for MS.

Chris Straitput together Music Against MS (MAMS) for his senior project. MAMS brought local Huntingdon talent together for MS. Music, vocal and dance performances enabled his program to raise $1,050.00 to help end MS.

Shadowbox Studioscreated a line of MS Awareness Jewelry.   Proceeds during the month of March raised $167.87 for MS.

Ted’s Bar and Grillin Harrisburg hosted a benefit concert in support of Burlew’s Mud Run team. The concert raised over $800 for Doug Burlew’s team, which will participate in the 2nd Annual Mud Run taking place in Newtown Square, PA, benefiting the Society.

The 9th Annual Iron Man Disc Golf Tournament was a great success. Set in the fall colors of the Gifford Pinchot State Park, the tournament challenges each participant to throw 100 holes of disc golf for MS. This year the tournament raised $3,933.00.

Our honorable mentions:  The Hazleton Health & Wellness Center – Fitness Fundraiser raised $50.00 to support our vision to end MS; Katie Henry’s MS Pen Sale raised $24; Mary Ann Claravel’s Birthday Party donated $470.00 to MS; Amy Benninger Candy Sales raised $52.10; JDK Holiday Gift Fundraiser raised $500.00; Knox Family Reunion at WaterSide Campground donated $300.00 for MS; Panunzio Wedding / Courtney Panunzio raised $250.00; Barbara Miley Bike Ride for MS raised $165.00; Nathon Masakowski’s Senior Project raised $535.00; Thomas Hackman’s  Motorcycle Ride brought in $500.00 for MS; Peoples Bank Casual Day Program raised $620.00; 1st Ed Credit Union  Cookbooks Donation brought in $255.00; James Rowe – Student and Staff Donations from Golden Corral T-shirt Giveaway raised $200.00 for MS; York Jaycees held their Annual Chili Cook-off, and named our Central PA Chapter as beneficiary. $379.00
