Nancy W., Women on the Move Luncheon Steering Committee MemberNancy's Story

When most people hear the words MS Society they probably think they help people with Multiple Sclerosis. That's very true, but I'll bet very few people can even guess how extensive that help can be.

As a person with MS myself I have seen first hand many of the good works that they do for me and many others. Starting with my first experience with them 10 years ago and through all of my highs and lows, they just want to listen and help in any way they can.

I'm writing this, not because anyone asked me to, but because I believe it's so important to get the word out about successful fund raising events like the "Women on the Move" luncheon and other events that enable the MS Society to make such a huge difference in so many people's lives.

Here are just some of the ways The National MS Society helps all people with MS:

Cash assistance for things like

  • health insurance
  • ADA access for the home
  • air conditioning
  • more

Guidance on issues like

  • health insurance
  • choosing doctors
  • legal issues
  • mental health for patients and caregivers
  • family counseling
  • occupational training and things like driving longer

Exercise programs to keep patients mobile and more in control of their own lives

  • yoga
  • aqua programs
  • exercise in general and PT

Opportunities to volunteer to help others
Christmas gifts for shut ins and nursing home patients with MS

Perhaps most important they let you know that you are not alone
