Life with MS impacts everyone in the family.
The Western Pennsylvania Chapter offers educational seminars and recreational programs for family members caring for or living with a loved on with MS. An animated video, “Timmy’s Journey with MS”, is available to teach children about MS. The Chapter also offers support programs for children with MS and their parents.
Individualized, age-appropriate education and support are available for every member of the family. Such support may include the following:
►Counseling for parents
►Counseling for children
►In-home occupational and physical therapy assessments to increase safety and independence
►Assistance in locating other community resources
►Friendly Visitors, a program that matches volunteers with persons with MS who live in nursing homes.
►Keep S'myelin, a newsletter designed specifically for kids and teens who have a parent or relative with MS.
►MS Paws Program - In the event of an emergency, we know you have a lot to take into consideration. With some advance planning, your companion animal could be the least of them. The Western Pennsylvania Chapter has teamed up with Animal Friends, Pittsburgh’s Only No-Kill Shelter, to provide temporary care for your furry friend. For more information e-mail Pam or call her at 1-800-344-4867
►Caregivers, Family and Friends - Caregiver services are designed to provide a break or an extra set of hands for those who provide care for a loved one with multiple sclerosis. In addition to services, we also provide occasional programs targeted at caregivers' needs.
