Therapeutic horseback riding has been shown to enhance overall functional activity for people with disabilities. This program is beneficial for people with MS who have limited mobility, those working to improve balance and muscle coordination, and persons who have enough trunk control to support oneself sitting independently, but who would like to increase core muscle strength.

Spirit Horse Guidelines: To ensure that riders are suited for therapeutic horseback riding, interested program participants are required to complete a client application which requests medical history and a physician's release. National MS Society members will only be authorized for the program by Spirit Horse. Program participants are encouraged to provide Spirit Horse with a 24 hour absence notification. Due to limited class space, Spirit Horse staff has the right to allow new inquiring NMSS members attendance priority over program participants who have missed 3 or more class sessions.
